Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrate 14th wedding anniversary in Scotland

Ryan Brennan04/29/25

Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary where it all started.

The royal couple, who tied the knot on April 29, 2011, arrived in the town of Tobermory on Tuesday as part of a two-day visit to the Isles of Mull and Iona off the west coast of Scotland.

Some of the town’s 3,000 residents lined the streets of Tobermory upon their arrival.

William, 42, and Middleton, 43, began their visit with a trip to a community hub before taking a stroll through an artisan market — where they chatted with locals and posed for pictures.

According to People, the couple also made a pit stop at a soft play area for children and even helped construct a sign for a Community Pantry.

The pair will also learn about sustainable farming practices and hospitality at a local croft before meeting the Mull and Iona Ranger Service on April 30 — where they will join a local school group.

In a video posted to the royal couple’s social media, interior designer Banjo Beale — who lives on the Isle of Mull — opened up about what makes the Inner Hebrides such a beautiful place to call home.

“The close-knit population and rich cultural history means the sense of community here is really strong,” Beale says in the video. “Everyone looks out for everyone.”

In the caption, Middleton and William confirmed their excitement for the trip and said they’re looking forward to “an inspiring two days here celebrating the power of community and connection.”

According to Reuters, the royal couple will be staying at a small, isolated self-catered cottage on the Isle of Mull. The area is known for its picturesque views and beautiful scenery.

The two-day visit marks the couple’s highest-profile joint trip this year.

It also comes just a few days after William attended the funeral of Pope Francis in Italy on behalf of his father, King Charles III. As is tradition, the reigning monarch doesn’t typically attend funerals.

Scotland, of course, is a country that’s near and dear to the royal couple’s love story.

After all, it’s where William and Middleton first met in 2001 while attending the University of St. Andrews — which is located on the east coast of Scotland (about 150 miles east of Tobermory).

The pair remained friends “for a while” before the relationship turned romantic in 2002, per People

"When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” William said in a 2010 interview with Tom Bradby of ITV News.

“And then I knew there was possibly something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up being friends for a while," he explained.

The couple got engaged in 2010 and tied the knot on April 29, 2011, per Westminster-Abbey

Now 14 years later, the Duke and Duchess of Wales (or Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as they’re called in Scotland) share three children — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 7.

In 2021, William and Middleton returned to Scotland and visited the university where it all started.

“Scotland is incredibly important to me and will always have a special place in my heart,” William said in a speech during the visit. “it was here in Scotland – twenty years ago this year – that I first met Catherine.”

"Needless to say, the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart,” William added.
