“They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing.”
Ava Phillippe might not be a lawyer, but her mother is — sort of.
The 25-year-old daughter of actress Reese Witherspoon took to TikTok on May 27 to put her own spin on one of the platform’s most popular trends as of late; the “Holy Freaking Airball” trend.
It didn’t take long for her video to win the internet over.

The TikTok, which includes five slides, opens with a photo of Phillippe wearing a pink dress with a text overlay that reads, “I told him my mom’s a lawyer.”
Her mom, of course, isn’t an actual lawyer, but she did play a sorority-sister-turned-law-student-then-lawyer named Elle Woods in the hit film “Legally Blonde” (2001).
In the second slide, Phillippe includes a photo of her toddler self accompanying her mother on the set of “Legally Blonde 2,” which was released two years later.
“He said, ‘Oh, what firm does she work at?’” Phillippe wrote on the slide, which was followed by photos of her mother in her iconic role. “Holy freakin’ air ball.”
In the caption, Phillippe added a hashtag inspired by one of Woods’ most quote-worthy lines: “What, like it’s hard?”
It’s a rhetorical question that Woods says to her ex-boyfriend, Warner Huntington III (played by Matthew Davis), who was shocked that she was accepted into Harvard Law School.
“Her law degree may not be real… but she did go to Stanford for a bit,” Phillippe added in the caption, referring to the school Witherspoon dropped out of after one year to pursue her acting career.
Many TikTok users took to the comment section to let Phillippe know that she had put this trend to rest.
“And not just any lawyer… THE lawyer,” one user commented, while another wrote, “You win this hands down!! No one messes with Elle Woods.”
Other users were simply blown away at how much Phillippe resembles her mother.
“I’ll never get over you looking exactly like your mom and exactly like your dad at the SAME time,” a third user commented, referring to her father Ryan Phillippe.
“Holy freaking copy and paste. You look just like your mom,” another commenter wrote.
Phillippe channels her inner Witherspoon in acting debut
Phillippe’s viral TikTok comes amid a breakout year for the trendy actress.
She made her official acting debut earlier this year with a guest appearance as Veronica on the hit TV show “Doctor Odyssey.”
In the episode, which aired April 3, Phillippe was seen wearing a pink two-piece string bikini that looked a lot like the one her mother wore in “Legally Blonde” more than two decades ago.
Phillippe continued her breakout year with an appearance on Netflix’s “Ransom Canyon” on April 17, per IMDB.
In an interview with Elite Daily, published May 12, Phillippe opened up about how she initially “resisted” becoming an actress before deciding to follow in her parent’s footsteps.
“It’s been in the air my whole life: Are you going to do what your parents did? Are you going to be a mini-me?” Phillippe told the outlet.
“I really resisted that for a long time. I wanted to be my own person, and I didn’t think of myself as somebody who wanted to be out there in that way,” she added.
It wasn’t until Phillippe graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018 that her stance changed.
“I started to open myself up to: ‘Maybe let’s try it. Don’t close yourself off. Creativity is boundless,’” she told Elite Daily. “When I started dipping my toe in, I found I really loved it.”
She also shared some of her best advice for being in the public eye — and gave all the credit to her parents.
“You have to be grounded in what matters to you,” she said. “I’ve had a really good guiding light in my parents. They’ve always encouraged me to focus on my values rather than the noise.”

In addition to Ava, Witherspoon also shares a 21-year-old son Deacon with Ryan Phillippe and 12-year-old son Tennessee James with Jim Toth.
