Robert Irwin is trading his hiking boots for dancing shoes — but not before honoring his dad.
The 21-year-old wildlife conservationist and son of the late zookeeper Steve Irwin was announced as one of the new celebrity dancers for Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” earlier this year, per ABC News.
With the season premiere less than one month away, Robert Irwin has officially landed in Hollywood.

On Aug. 24, Robert Irwin took to his Instagram to share a video of him walking down Hollywood Boulevard in an all-jean outfit and sunglasses when he stopped to look at something “special.”
“We just touched down in LA for ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and look what I found,” he says in the video — and, for once, he wasn’t talking about a crocodile.
That something was his father’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“How cool is that?” he says as he kneels down next to the star.
“This is so special,” he wrote in the caption of his post, which even elicited a comment from his older sister.
“I know Dad is SO proud of you,” Bindi Irwin wrote in the comment section.
Steve Irwin shares both of his kids with his wife, Terri Irwin. The couple tied the knot in 1992, welcomed daughter Bindi in 1998 and had their son Robert five years later, according to the Australian Zoo.
He was awarded the 2,635th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 26, 2018 — more than a decade after his tragic death in 2006.
The star is located at 6320 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Iguana Vintage store.
Robert Irwin says he’s ‘ready to dance’ ahead of DWTS debut
Robert Irwin’s “special” post came just one day after he confirmed that he had landed in LA.
On Aug. 23, the first-time “DWTS” performer shared a video of him holding a baby crocodile while on a research expedition with saltwater crocodiles in remote Northern Australia on Instagram.
“But I’m about to get on a plane and head to Hollywood,” he said in the video.
“We’ve made it!” he said from the streets of Los Angeles. “I’ll see ya on ‘Dancing with the Stars!”
He added in the caption: “From the outback to Hollywood. America, I’m ready to dance - see you soon!!!”
Robert Irwin’s “Dancing with the Stars” debut was announced on April 22 at Hulu’s Get Real event. He was the first celebrity announced — but he has some fairly big shoes to fill.
In 2015, his sister Bindi was crowned champion of Season 21 with her dance partner Derek Hough, per ABC.
“This his has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid watching my sister’s incredible journey on the show,” he wrote in an Instagram post following his announcement earlier this year.
“I cannot believe it is about to become a reality. So grateful,” he added in the caption.
Bindi Irwin took to Instagram herself to congratulate her brother and share the excitement of the news.
“Robert, you are going to absolutely shine in the ballroom. I wish I could express the magnitude of how proud I am of you and everything you have achieved,” she wrote at the time.
“Can’t wait to cheer you on each week as you inspire so many with your strength, kindness and determination. Here’s to an extraordinary journey ahead,” she added.
The entirety of the “Dancing with the Stars” cast has yet to be announced, but several others have been confirmed — including influencer Alix Earle and MomTok stars Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt.
More recently, on Aug. 26, People confirmed that Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria Baldwin will also compete.

Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” premieres Tuesday, September 16 on ABC and Disney+, per the show’s Instagram account. It will also be available to stream the following day on Hulu.
