“Being this way is not taking anything from anyone. It’s just the way that we were raised.”
Selena Gomez reveals she will likely break from some traditions when it comes to her wedding to Benny Blanco.
During a conversation with the “Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast,” the actress and singer discussed a few intimate details about her future wedding.
And while Gomez will be honoring some wedding traditions, she won’t be honoring all of them.
According to the 32-year-old, she and Blanco won’t be participating in a first dance.
“I don't think we're looking at having [a first dance],” Gomez told the hosts, admitting she’s too shy for all that attention.
However, when it comes to her walk down the aisle and the father daughter dance, Gomez says she hopes to share those special moments with her grandfather.
“I am looking to have a special dance with my papa,” Gomez explained. “He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle because, good for my mom, she decided to go to Vegas and was like, ‘whooo.’”
Gomez is referring to her mom, Mandy Teefy and her stepfather, Brian Teefy, who wed in 2006.
“She's still been with [her husband] ever since she was 26. So it's very cute that they did that,” Gomez continued, “but I wanted to give my grandfather the opportunity to have that.”
For most of her life, Gomez lived with her maternal grandparents. In 2023, Gomez's grandparents said they “love being a part of watching her grow.”
It remains unclear when Gomez and Blanco plan to exchange vows.
Blanco proposed to Gomez in December with a marquee diamond, a nod to one of Gomez’s most popular songs.
The couple has also recently released a new album they collaborated on earlier this year. After doing so, Blanco took Gomez on a prom-inspired photoshoot after learning Gomez, a child star, had never been to prom.

They eventually turned that special moment into a music video for one of the songs they collaborated on, “Talk.”
