Whitney Leavitt’s Journey From Reality TV Villain to Broadway Star: What’s Next for the Mormon Wives Breakout?

Whitney Leavitt has come a long way from being the controversial figure audiences loved to hate on Hulu’s hit reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

The 32-year-old entertainer has transformed her public image dramatically, evolving from reality television’s designated villain into a Broadway performer and aspiring movie actress. Now, as she juggles multiple career opportunities, fans are left wondering: will she stay on the show that made her famous, or is she ready to close that chapter for good?

From MomTok to the Bright Lights of Broadway

Leavitt’s path to stardom took an unconventional route. Before becoming a household name through reality television, she built her following on TikTok through dance videos. She eventually joined “MomTok,” a collective of Mormon mothers who were gaining viral attention at the time.

Taylor Frankie Paul has been credited as the creator of MomTok, and when a swinging scandal hit the headlines—one that Whitney notably did not participate in—the drama became the foundation for what would become Hulu’s breakout reality series.

Her educational background prepared her well for the entertainment opportunities that would eventually come her way. Leavitt was a fine arts major with a dance concentration at Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City. Growing up Mormon, she attended the faith-based institution, though she has since reflected on that choice with some mixed feelings.

“Looking back, I do wish that I would have ventured out to other universities, because it was very conservative,” she told Variety in an article published on Feb. 4.

Long before the reality show cameras started rolling, Leavitt harbored a secret ambition that she kept mostly to herself. In her revealing interview with Variety, she opened up about the moment she first voiced her true aspirations.

“I have a distinct memory of being in college with my husband while we were dating, and he asked, ‘What do you want to do?’” Leavitt told the outlet. “I was like, ‘I want to be in the movies.’ It was always something I’d thought in my mind, but I had never said it out loud, and I didn’t know how to get there. Like, ‘Where do people go?’”

Dancing Her Way to New Opportunities

Leavitt’s big break beyond reality television came through “Dancing With the Stars” Season 34, where she was paired with professional dancer Mark Ballas. The competition series gave her a platform to showcase her dance training and connected her with a broader entertainment industry audience.

That exposure led to an extraordinary opportunity: the chance to play Roxie Hart in the legendary Broadway production of “Chicago.” She made her debut in the iconic role in February, with her “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” costars in attendance on opening night to support her. The moment represented a full-circle achievement for someone who had studied dance in college and dreamed of performing on the biggest stages.

Behind every major career pivot is often a supportive family willing to make sacrifices. Leavitt’s husband, Connor Leavitt, has proven to be her biggest champion. The couple made the significant decision to relocate their three children to New York City so Whitney could pursue her Broadway opportunity.

Moving an entire family across the country for a theatrical run demonstrates the level of commitment both Whitney and Connor have invested in her evolving career. It also speaks to the genuine nature of her artistic ambitions—this isn’t simply a celebrity vanity project but a serious pursuit backed by real sacrifice.

The Uncertain Future on 'Mormon Wives'

As Leavitt’s acting career gains momentum, questions about her continued participation in “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” have become increasingly pressing. The show is currently filming Season 5, and while production crews are following her in New York, the logistics of balancing both commitments have proven challenging.

“They’re following me while I’m in New York, but I don’t know how that would look for future seasons. It wouldn’t make sense. People want to see the group together,” she says. “Part of me is like, ‘I can’t do both,’ because both are so time-demanding. Even filming Season 5 has been really hard.”

Her candid assessment reveals the genuine tension between two demanding career paths. Reality television requires consistent presence and availability, while acting roles demand focused preparation and performance schedules that don’t always align with filming commitments.

When asked what she gains from staying on the reality show now that she’s booking the acting roles she always dreamed of, Leavitt’s response was refreshingly honest.

“I don’t know. Because this is what I wanted, and I wasn’t shy about sharing that. So at what point do you move on to the next journey?”

She revealed that she and Connor “keep going back and forth” on the decision. “That’s where it all started, so it’s kind of sad. But maybe that’s the best thing,” she reflected.

What’s Coming Next

Despite the uncertainty surrounding her reality television future, Leavitt’s entertainment calendar is filling up with exciting projects. Beyond her Broadway stint and “Dancing With the Stars” appearance, she has a Hallmark Christmas movie called “All For Love” set for release in December.

Per IMDb, she also appeared in a small television show titled “The League of Warriors” as Samantha Ashton in 2025, demonstrating her commitment to building a diverse acting portfolio.

And there may be more on the horizon. When Variety asked Leavitt whether she’s in talks for any unannounced projects, she bats her eyelashes. “Maybe,” she says. “Maybe another movie. Not a rom-com. A thriller.”
