Comedians Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are officially in-laws.
The exciting news was revealed on the May 29 episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” when Eddie Murphy announced that his son, Eric Murphy, married Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence.
The couple opted for a small, intimate ceremony, rather than a grand wedding.

“They went off, everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” the “Shrek” actor told Hudson, per People.
According to Eddie Murphy, the secret ceremony took place roughly two weeks ago.
“They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing. So I think we'll have a big party or something,” Eddie Murphy added, joking that he won’t have to pay for a “big wedding.”
The news comes six months after Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence announced their engagement in a Nov. 30 joint Instagram post.
The video showed Eric Murphy getting down on one knee in a room full of flowers and candles.
“We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter,” Jasmin Lawrence wrote in the caption, clarifying that the proposal occurred on Nov. 27.
The couple went public with their relationship in 2021, per People.
Eric Murphy is the eldest son of Eddie Murphy, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely.
The comedian also shares nine other children — daughters Bria, Shayne, Zola, Bella, Angel and Izzy, and sons Christian, Myles and Max — with three different women.
Meanwhile, Jasmin Lawrence is the eldest child of Martin Lawrence and his only child with ex-wife Patricia Southall. He also shares daughters Iyanna and Amara with his second wife, Shamicka Gibbs.
Jasmin Lawrence and Eric Murphy didn’t meet through their parents
As fate would have it, Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence played no role in their children meeting.
During a January 2022 interview with InTouch Weekly, Jasmin Lawrence revealed the origin story of her relationship with Eric Murphy — and it had nothing to do with their famous parents.
“My uncle actually introduced us. It wasn't even our dads,” she told the outlet.
“And they've done two movies together. They're friends,” she said of their dads. “I don't even know, it's crazy, but we met through my uncle and, you know, we became really good friends.”
Jasmin Lawrence credited their similar upbringing for helping them find common ground.
In June 2022, Martin Lawrence joked about the idea of his daughter potentially giving birth to a “comedy super-baby” during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
At the time, he tried to convince Eddie Murphy to pay for the couple’s future wedding.
Several months later, Eddie Murphy responded in an interview with Canadian outlet Etalk — arguing that he recently had to pay for his daughter’s wedding, and Martin Lawrence should have to do the same.
"You're paying for the wedding,” Eddie Murphy said, per People. “If it goes down, Martin is paying."
On May 28, one day before Eddie Murphy broke the news of the wedding, Martin Lawrence described Eric Murphy as a “great young man” in his own interview on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”
When asked about the advice he gives his three daughters, Martin Lawrence kept it simple.
“Stay out of trouble and do the right thing,” he told Hudson. “And keep God first.”
As for his proudest moment as a dad, Martin Lawrence said “being there when all of them were born” was his biggest highlight.
