Some grocery stores know exactly what to do with VHS tapes — and it doesn’t involve collecting dust.
Demeter’s Common — a locally-owned grocery store in Lebanon, Tennessee — is taking the meaning of vintage grocery store to a whole new level with its unique sense of classic comfort and community.
It’s known for its selection of locally-made candles, soap, fruit tea and more.
But it also provides a nostalgic experience unlike any other.

There's something to be said for an adult who can walk in somewhere like this and just feel a sense of peace because you feel like you were a kid again," store owner Mallory Jennings told WTVF.
As customers walk through the store, they come across not one but four vintage TVs.
And each TV is surrounded by a collection of old VHS tapes to be played at their leisure — including movies like “Honey! I Shrunk the Kids,” “Brother Bear,” “Aladdin,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Toy Story 2.”
One sign next to the VHS tapes reads, “Feel free to change the tape.”
"We might put on Pee-wee's Playhouse, just whatever makes people happy. We've got puzzles for people to play," Jennings told WTVF.
The store even has couches and tables set up by the TV so customers can sit, play, watch and shop at the same time.
The internet can’t get enough of Lebanon’s favorite grocery store
Demeter’s Common is located in the heart of Lebanon — roughly 40 minutes from Nashville.
The store is named after Demeter, the ancient Greek goddess of the harvest and agriculture, which speaks to Jennings’ passion for all things locally-sourced, from bread to eggs and other local trinkets.
She also makes plenty of “grab and go foods” that are available for purchase.

“It’s Saturday and we are wide open with biscuits and gravy, pea salad, chicken salad, potato salad, eggs, milk, bread, salsa, cookies, elderberry syrup, local honey,” she wrote in a Jan. 17 Facebook post.
“Also I low key got a grocery themed puzzle and it’s 1000 pieces and y’all can tinker with that while you enjoy cartoons and coffee,” she added in the post.
In August, Jennings announced that her grocery store was voted “Best Grocery Store in Wilson County.”
And it’s easy to see why based on her store’s Google Reviews.

At a time when everyone is feeling the nostalgia from 2016, Jennings’ store is helping customers travel back even further to a time when social media didn’t exist and life was simpler.
"You should be able to go to your local grocer and be like, can you find me local beeswax or do you know where I can find x, y, and z,” she told WTVF.

“And I love that I've become that person that people can come to and ask for something like that and then I can usually find it," she added.
