“It’s a bright spot on the Moon. And we would like to call it Carroll.”
If you’ve ever looked at your dog and thought, “You deserve the world,” then you’re going to absolutely melt over this story.
Golden retrievers Maeve and Oakley officially tied the knot in a charity wedding ceremony in East Sussex on March 31 — complete with 60 human guests and a custom dog cake. Yes, there was a cake. We’ll get to that.
A Love Story for the Ages
Every great wedding starts with a love story, and Maeve and Oakley’s is as sweet as it gets. According to Maeve’s owner, Hannah Brown, the two golden retrievers met through their owners’ families.
“We’re good friends with [Oakley’s] family,” Brown told the BBC. “We’ve gone on lots of holidays together. It’s a lovely little love story.”

Brown also shared on This Morning that the dogs’ bond developed over time: after going “on lots of lovely walks together,” their love “has just blossomed.”
And blossom it did. The pair already share six puppies together, making this wedding more of a celebration of an already thriving family.
The Big Day
Brown documented the event on Instagram ahead of the ceremony, and her message perfectly captured the spirit of the whole affair.
“We know it sounds a bit silly (okay, a lot silly), but honestly, life’s too short for negativity,” Brown wrote. “Sometimes you just need a little love, a little chaos, and a lot of wagging tails.”
The ceremony brought together 60 human guests to celebrate Maeve and Oakley’s union. And no dog wedding would be complete without the right refreshments. The celebration featured a custom cake made from oats, bananas and mashed potatoes — crafted specifically for the four-legged guests of honor. (Move over, fondant. Mashed potato frosting is the new wedding trend we didn’t know we needed.)
Brown said the day exceeded every expectation.
“It was just amazing, such a lovely day,” Brown said. “It was so precious. It was just so lovely to see all the kids there and everyone just loving it. Even the puppies loved every minute of it.”

Wagging Tails With a Purpose
What makes this whole event even more heartwarming is the fact that it wasn’t just about celebrating Maeve and Oakley. It was about giving back.
On the day of the event, Brown and Oakley’s owner, Stuart, raised money for Dogs Trust USA, which works to address dog welfare issues globally. Brown announced the charitable component ahead of the wedding with a message that resonates with every dog lover who has ever wanted to do more for pups in need.
“On the big day, we’ll be collecting donations for a dogs’ charity to give back to our furry friends in need. Because love is best when it’s shared. 💕🐾.”
Even Dogs Trust USA got in on the fun. Ahead of the ceremony, the organization told the BBC: “We are aware of the upcoming nuptials between Maeve and Oakley. We wish the happy couple all the best for the future.”
Spreading Joy, One Wagging Tail at a Time
Brown told the BBC that the wedding began as a “silly idea” intended to bring positivity.
“I think it’s just nice to spread some love and positivity,” she said. “Life is too short.”
That simple philosophy turned into a day filled with joy for dozens of guests, a meaningful donation to dog welfare and an internet moment that has golden retriever lovers everywhere clutching their hearts. With six puppies already in the picture and a community rallying behind them, Maeve and Oakley’s love story is proof that sometimes the best things in life come with four paws and a wagging tail.
Congratulations to the happy couple.
