A mother in Australia has been sentenced to time in jail after she poured kerosene over herself and her 7-year-old son before setting her kitchen on fire.
Kelsey Anderson is using her platform to spread an important message during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On October 13, the reality TV star opened up to her followers in an emotional video about her late mother, who passed away from breast cancer in 2018.
“It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, make sure y’all are getting checked regularly and doing your self exams 💗,” she wrote in her caption.
In the video, Anderson recalled how her mother taught her and her siblings to recognize the signs of breast cancer early.
“My mom had us feel the lumps so we would know what to look for,” she shared. “I do self-exams regularly, and all I do is use two fingers and go throughout my breast tissue — which is all right here and up into your armpit as well — and I go in circular motions while I’m in the shower to make sure there’s nothing abnormal.”
Anderson revealed that she’s had two lumpectomies herself — both benign — but emphasized the importance of being proactive. “Sometimes these masses can turn into something dangerous too, so it’s best to just get rid of it,” she explained.
Her mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. At the time, Anderson took to Instagram to ask fans for prayers and support, writing, “In 2011 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then it has moved to her bones and liver. The doctors told her she has 6 months to a year left, but she isn’t giving up. She’s doing research and trying whatever she can... Please pray for my mom ❤️.”
Anderson later reflected on that period of her life during an episode of The Squeeze podcast in November 2024, admitting that she initially struggled to process her mom’s diagnosis.
“At the beginning, I just wanted to push it all away. I didn’t want to think about it,” she said. “I was going out a lot, eating terrible, drinking — just avoiding it all.”
While competing for and eventually winning Joey Graziadei’s heart on Season 28 of The Bachelor, Anderson shared that her mother’s breast cancer had “metastasized on her bones.”
“They gave her six months,” Kelsey revealed. “After that, it was just very aggressive, and after I think about two months, she passed away.”
Now, Anderson continues to honor her mom’s memory by encouraging others to take their health seriously and prioritize early detection.
