"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day."
UPDATE: On Wednesday, December 17, three days after they were murdered, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s cause of deaths have been revealed, E! News reported.
According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, both Rob and Michele died from "multiple sharp force injuries.” As NBC News reported, the husband and wife had suffered “stab wounds.”
Original reporting begins below:
On December 16, Nick Reiner was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstance allegations of multiple murders, as well as using a deadly weapon, a knife, following the tragic deaths of his mother and father, Michele and Rob Reiner.
The following day, on Wednesday, December 17, Rob and Michele's eldest son and youngest daughter, Jake and Romy Reiner, publicly opened up about their unimaginable pain in a joint statement shared with People.
"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," Jake and Romy wrote. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."

The brother and sister continued, writing, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”
“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave."
The statement comes after The New York Times reported that it was Romy who discovered her father’s body in their Los Angeles home on December 14 after a message therapist notified her that they could not access the house.
The report further claimed that Romy did not know her mother’s body was also in the home. The 27-year-old was notified of her mom’s death by a responding paramedic.
Hours later, Romy and Jake’s brother, Nick, was arrested in connection to the murders.
As it remains, a motive for the double homicide has not yet been shared with the public.
On Wednesday, after making a brief courtroom appearance, Nick, nor his attorney Alan Jackson, issued a plea. An arraignment has been rescheduled for January 7, according to NBC News.
In response to why the arraignment was rescheduled, Jackson told reporters, "There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Things need to be thoroughly but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed."
Rob’s adopted daughter, Tracy Reiner, also shared a brief statement shortly after news of her father’s death was made public. “I came from the greatest family ever,” she told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
