As the investigation into Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s deaths continue, more of the couple’s family is speaking out.
After the Reiner family shared an initial statement with Variety, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” Rob’s eldest daughter is also speaking out.
Rob, 78, adopted daughter Tracy Reiner during his first marriage to Penny Marshall.
In a brief statement shared with NBC News, Tracy said, “I came from the greatest family ever,” she told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
Further updates have revealed that Rob and Michele’s son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested in connection to their deaths.
According to The New York Times, the 32-year-old is being held in jail on a $4 million bail, jail records indicate. Those online records show Nick was arrested on December 14 and booked on December 15.
No further information has been confirmed or shared publicly by law enforcement.
In a 2016 interview with People, Nick opened up about his battle with addiction and experience with homelessness.
“When I was out there, I could’ve died,” he told People. “It’s all luck. You roll the dice and you hope you make it.”
Nick and Rob collaborated on a film title Being Charlie, about a man struggling with addiction, NBC News reports. At the time, Rob called the creation of the film as therapeutic.
"It was very, very hard going through it the first time, with these painful and difficult highs and lows," Rob told the LA Times in 2015. "And then making the movie dredged it all up again."
Rob also opened up about his own mistakes when navigating Nick’s addiction.
"When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son,"
In addition to Tracy and Nick, Rob and Michele, 68, are also parents to Jake and Romy.
