“They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing.”
In 2019, author Anna Kloot’s life looked a lot different.
After her husband left her and she lost her job, she wrote in an Instagram post that she “thought my life was over.”
Little did she know at that time that she would move to Paris, find her dream apartment and her new neighbor would become one of the most important people in her life.
After moving to Paris, Kloots would go on to write a book call “My Own Magic,” which detailed that time in her life. On her website, she said she hoped “that it might help anyone who feels invisible to feel seen, make anyone who feels alone feel heard, and inspire anyone who feels lost to find their their own magic.”
Now, Kloots is celebrating another milestone in Paris. Her engagement.
“Five years ago I bumped into my neighbor in Paris and he asked me to dance,” Kloots wrote. “Five days ago, he asked me to marry him.”
“Some things are meant to be,” Kloots captioned the video showing her partner getting down on one knee. “I believe I was always meant to move to Paris. I was meant to pick that airbnb, and the evening when I’d given up on dating - bump into my neighbor, and dance to this song.”
“I was meant to meet the person who would show me that the kind of love I’d dreamed of finding wasn’t a fantasy, and that some people truly do want to take, and hold your hand - in good times and in bad,” Kloots continued.
She said that her and her partner “had many talks about marriage over the last five years, and during that time this amazing man understood that I needed more time to say yes to myself, before I was fully ready to say yes to us.”
“He asked me to marry him, but really we said “oui” to continuing to build a life together; the two of us and Miette.”
Friends and fans of Kloots’ who have watched her journey on social media were thrilled for her.
Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote, “Huge congrats!!! You deserve this. Also your dog is the BEST.”
