“Talk, ask (questions), listen.. maybe even learn..."
“Hey sweetheart, it’s me Shay,” influencer Shay Wright began in a TikTok video on July 10.
The video was posted to her and her late husband Tanner Martin’s TikTok page two weeks after he announced his own death in a video of his own, shared on June 25. He was 30.
Martin’s death came six weeks after the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named AmyLou.

In the July 10 video, Wright gives her late husband an update one week after his funeral service, which included a public viewing on July 3 and funeral service on July 5, according to a post on their Instagram.
At the time of recording the letter, Wright said she was on her way to meet with a few widows.
“It’s been two weeks since you started your new mission in heaven,” Wright said in the video. “And, like I would always tell you, ‘You’re mean for that.’ But I know you wanted to stay here.”

She went on to add that his funeral service went “exactly the way that (he) planned it.”
That included finding a harpist who knew how to play “Duel of the Fates,” a musical theme composed by John Williams for the Star Wars prequel film “The Phantom Menace.”
“I’m sure you heard,” Wright said to Martin. “It was beautiful, honey.”
On June 28, Wright took to Instagram to share details about the funeral service and asked anyone who planned on attending to “wear something Star Wars in honor of Tanner.”
“Tanner also requested for Star Wars stickers to be placed on his casket,” Wright added in the post.
On July 12, Wright shared several photos of her holding the couple’s newborn baby at Martin’s funeral.
In the caption, she shared one of her final memories with her husband.
“A few nights before Tanner returned to Heaven we were able to have one last dance to our wedding song, cuddled up on the couch together, just swaying our hands,” she wrote.
Wright details what life is like without Martin around
Elsewhere in her July 10 letter to Martin, Wright said that she’s missing her husband a lot before joking that the house is “really quiet” without him.
“Because the TV is not on constantly and your loud laugh isn’t there. So, it’s quiet and I miss you,” she said in the video.
As for their daughter AmyLou, Wright said she’s now 9 lbs. and 9 oz. and “getting chubby” like Martin wanted.
“She likes milk, just as you predicted,” Wright added.
Wright also said she’s taking care of Martin’s family, like he requested, and that they visit her and AmyLou on the regular.
“They come over a lot to see AmyLou and we just talk about you and memories and the silly things you said,” she continued.
Wright concluded her letter — which was captioned, “Letter #1 to Tanner” — with a vow to continue the video updates in the future.
Tanner Martin was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer in November 2020, according to People.
As of October 2024, he had undergone more than 50 rounds of chemo, roughly 50 rounds of radiation, at least six major surgeries and dozens of other procedures, per the outlet.
In his death announcement video, posted to social media on June 25, Tanner Martin said he “had a heck of a life.”
