Eddie Murphy doesn’t know if his future grandchild will follow in his footsteps — even with the help of Martin Lawrence’s genes.
The 64-year-old “Shrek” star has been friends with the “Martin” alum for years, but the two comedians became family earlier this year when Murphy’s son, Eric, and Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, tied the knot.
Murphy revealed the news on the May 29 episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”

At the July 27 red carpet premiere of his new movie “The Pickup,” Murphy was asked what it’s like being in-laws with Lawrence during an interview with ExtraTV.
“It’s cool, we were friends for years and years,” Murphy said. “It’s just cool to say, ‘Now we’re in the family,’ but me and Martin have been buddies for years.”

When asked what family get-togethers are like, Murphy resorted to honesty.
“It’s really normal,” he said of the speculation that he and his kids are funny 24/7. “It’s not like that.”
“And when Eric and Jasmin have a kid, people are expecting the kid to be funny,” he said of the Murphy-Lawrence gene pools one day coming together.
“I bet that kid’s probably not gonna be funny at all,” he added. “It’ll be a serious child.”
While he’s unsure of how funny his future grandchild will be, Murphy was confident that he’ll get plenty of laughs when his upcoming film “Shrek 5” is released on Dec. 26, according to IMDB.
“I’ve recorded some great stuff,” he told ExtraTV.
“We don’t get a full script when we do these ‘Shrek’ movies. We get the dialogue we’re doing for each session and I know I’ve been doing some really funny stuff,” he added.
Murphy has previously opened up about being a grandfather
Murphy’s son and Lawrence’s daughter haven’t revealed any plans to start a family yet, but the two comedians will be ready when that day comes.
Murphy, who shares 10 children with five different women, according to People, became a grandfather in 2019 when his son Myles welcomed his first child, daughter Evie Isla, with wife Carly Fink.
In a 2019 interview with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, Murphy revealed that his granddaughter was born about five months after his son Max Charles, whom he shares with his wife Paige Butcher.
At the time of the interview, Murphy said he had a 10-month-old son and 5-month-old daughter.
When asked what he likes to be called as a grandfather, Murphy said he chose Papa because granddad didn’t “sound or feel right.”
Murphy and Butcher also share daughter Izzy Oona, born in 2016, while Myles and Fink welcomed their second baby, daughter Zuri Liv, in October, according to his wife’s Instagram.
Elsewhere in the 2019 interview, Ripa asked Murphy if any of his 10 kids were funny like him.
“Yes, the Murphy family has a great sense of humor,” he said — adding that he doesn’t have a “serious child.”
“Everybody’s kind of funny,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lawrence shares daughter Jasmin, 29, with his first wife Patricia Southall and daughters Ayana, 24, and Amara, 22, with his second wife Shamicka Gibbs, per People.

Lawrence isn’t a grandfather yet — so Jasmin and Eric’s first child will be a special one for him.
