Jinger Duggar Vuolo forced to make major decision amid newborn’s allergy. ‘I just don’t know’

Ryan Brennan | August 29, 2025

Jinger Duggar Vuolo is opening up about her newborn’s suspected allergy.

During the Aug. 27 episode of “The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast,” the 31-year-old reality TV star provided an update on her youngest child Finn, who she welcomed with husband Jeremy Vuolo on March 29.

After a recent checkup with her pediatrician, she learned that Finn is potentially allergic to dairy and soy.

Duggar, who had been breastfeeding Finn, went on to reveal the two options her doctor gave her.

“You can either cut out dairy and soy or you can just put them on formula,” she said on the podcast. “So, that’s the newest and latest with Finn.”

According to University Hospitals, common symptoms of dairy allergy in breastfed babies include hives, swelling under the skin, swelling of the tongue or throat, wheezing, vomiting and low blood pressure.

A dairy allergy can lead to poor weight gain, weight loss and failure to thrive.

The most common signs of a soy allergy in a breastfed baby include skin rash, itching, hives, swelling, vomiting, hiccups, diarrhea, arching of the back, coughing and irritated eyes, per Kids with Food Allergies.

As for Duggar, the decision to breastfeed or use formula has proved to be difficult.

The mom of three, who also shares two daughters — Felicity, 7 and Evangeline, 4 — with her husband, shared that she prefers to breastfeed her babies for at least the first year of their lives.

But she doesn’t know if she’ll be able to do that with her newborn baby boy.

“I’m not feeling like I’m going to be able to do the whole cutting out all the things to see if it works,” she explained. “So, I might just do the formula, which is hard for me.”

Duggar's husband argued that, while breastfeeding is generally considered the healthiest option for the baby, they also need to take her health and well-being into consideration.

“I just don’t know if I mentally can go back to that place of cutting out everything in my diet,” she added.

Jinger Duggar’s doctor said it’s a great time to transition to formula

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, breastmilk is the “perfect food” for a baby and contains the “right amount of nutrients” to support their growth and development.

But formula feeding is the “best possible alternative to breast milk.”

According to Duggar, Finn has been breastfeeding for five months — and he’s grown to be a “strong boy.”

“He is a big boy,” Duggar said on the podcast — adding that her doctor said this is a “great time” to transition to formula.

Earlier in the episode, the “Counting On” star described her baby boy as a “chunk.”

“It’s funny how, as parents, you always think your kid’s so much bigger than the average child,” she said of Finn.

“He is a chunk, but I think it’s because our girls were very skinny and it’s different,” she continued. “I nursed (Finn) the same as I did the girls, which is another thing.”
