Kailyn Lowry is opening up about her teenage son’s coming out experience.
The 33-year-old reality star turned podcaster made headlines earlier this month when she welcomed her 15-year-old son Elliott, born Isaac, onto her “Barely Famous” podcast to talk openly about his sexuality.
In the two-part episode, which debuted June 5, Elliott came out as gay and revealed his name change.

In an exclusive interview with Parade, published June 18, Lowry said her son now “feels a sense of relief.”
“And that's what he sort of told me,” she continued. “He was like, ‘I just want to help one person. If I could do that, then I feel like I did what I was supposed to do.’”
Lowry shares Elliott, who now goes by his middle name, with her high school boyfriend, Jo Rivera.
The former couple’s pregnancy,as well as Elliott’s birth, was documented on the second season of MTV’s hit show “16 and Pregnant.” Lowry and her kids later starred in “Teen Mom 2” from 2011 to 2022.
While talking to Parade, Lowry revealed how Rivera reacted to their son’s recent podcast debut.
“Jo and I had a really good conversation [the other day], and you know, he said that he listened to the episodes. He was really proud of Elliott, and he said that he was happy,” she said.
Lowry goes on to say that Rivera understands why Elliott did it and was “perfectly fine” with the questions.
“I had the conversation with him, and he came up to me, you know? And he said that he’s supportive of it,” Lowry added of Rivera’s reaction.
Lowry and Rivera started dating in 2008 and welcomed Elliott in 2010 before separating, per Us Weekly.
Lowry says her son looks forward to living ‘authentically’ now
In the June 9 episode of her podcast, Lowry revealed that her son was “robbed out of coming out” twice.
Not only were recent photos of Elliott and his prom date leaked online, prior to him coming out publicly, but Elliott further revealed that he once had a friend betray his trust after coming out to him privately.
"The first person I told was an ex-friend of mine, and he did not take it well. I told him and he went to our whole class and told everyone," Elliott explained on the podcast.
“I built up the courage to tell [him] something and [he] took it and kind of ruined that for me, which is hard,” he added.
While talking to Parade, Lowry said her son feels like a weight has been lifted off of his shoulders.
“You know, as unfortunate as it is that his boyfriend and his pictures were leaked, I think that he feels (relieved) that he can sort of live authentically, both publicly and privately now,” she told the outlet.
Lowry’s comments come less than one month after she talked about co-parenting with Rivera.
In an exclusive interview with People, published April 25, Lowry admitted that co-parenting looks “very different” now and that it “doesn’t feel like he’s my ex” because they’re so far removed from that.
"It's like I'm co-parenting with somebody I just know," she told People.
"Now that Isaac's 15, we don't have a whole lot to fight about at this point," she added. “I think that, for the most part, we've gotten through most of the hard stuff.”

In addition to Elliott, Lowry also shares son Lincoln, 11, with Javi Marroquin, sons Lux, 7, and Creed, 4, with Chris Lopez, and son Rio, 2, and 1-year-old twins Verse and Valley with her fiancé Elijah Scott.
