“A couple of hours? No, I’m not going to, and that’s okay.”
Kailyn Lowry is opening up about her son’s mysterious health scare.
The 33-year-old “Teen Mom” alum took to her “Coffee Convos” podcast, which she hosts with fellow reality TV star Lindsie Chrisley, on July 21 to share that her 2-year-old son Rio needs surgery.
The news comes months after Lowry noticed what she thought was a hernia above Rio’s belly button.

“I thought it was from the ISR swim lessons because he has to roll over and float on his back. And so I thought the stress of that created this little lump that looked like a hernia,” Lowry explained, per People.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, hernias “involve one of your abdominal organs pushing through one of the walls of your abdominal cavity” and usually appear as a small bump protruding through the skin.

Upon noticing the lump on her son’s belly, Lowry took Rio to the doctor where she was told that it would resolve itself over time.
But after several months of waiting, Lowry said the suspected hernia wasn’t getting any better.
“Over the last couple weeks, I’ve noticed this protruding out of his abdomen,” she said on the podcast.
“So, I texted Elijah (Rio's father) and I’m like, ‘Hey, I’ve got to call the pediatrician and get him in for this because at this point, it’s worse than it was last year,’” she added — referring to Rio’s father, Elijah Scott.
When Lowry took Rio in for another checkup, the doctor ordered an ultrasound to take a closer look.

“Then the ultrasound came back and they were like, ‘This is definitely not a hernia,’” Lowry said, per E! News.
Lowry was told that someone would call her when they got the results, but that never happened. Instead, she had to look at the charts herself.
“On the chart thing I logged into, it says, 'Reniform nodule in the area of interest consistent with lymph node. The differential includes granuloma or complex cyst. Neoplasia cannot be excluded,'" she said.
“And neoplasia is a tumor,” Lowry continued, per People. “And obviously as a mom, the first thing (was) my stomach sunk.”
According to the LA County Department of Public Health, “neoplasia is the uncontrolled, abnormal growth of cells or tissues in the body, and the abnormal growth itself is called a neoplasm or tumor.”
Lowry uses her experience as a warning to parents everywhere
The online chart displaying Rio's results listed several options as to what’s next for Rio.
Those options include a clinical follow-up or a tissue diagnosis in the form of a biopsy, per People.
"So that's what we're going to do," Lowry said on her podcast. "But I'm waiting for, actually, I have to call general surgery to make an appointment with them to have them look at it."
The mom of seven is now using her experience as a warning to parents everywhere.
“When it comes to your health, check everything out because I really thought it was a hernia this whole time. They told me it was going to resolve itself (and) I didn’t ask for a second opinion,” Lowry said.
“If you have access to medical treatment or care, go check it out because now I’m like, mom guilt, and also just the fact that neoplasia cannot be ruled out just freaked me out,” she added.
Lowry shares Rio and fraternal twins Verse and Valley with her ex-fiancé Elijah Scott, per People.
The former couple started dating in 2022 and announced their engagement in August 2024 before revealing their break up earlier this month.
