Thousands of kids' toys recalled as holiday shopping season heats up. Here’s what you need to know

Ryan Brennan | December 9, 2025

Before you start (or finish) your Christmas shopping for the year, there’s a few things you should know.

On Dec. 4, the United States’ Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a new series of recalls for kids toys that violate the mandatory standard for toys due to safety concerns.

Thousands of kids toys have been recalled — and refunds are being issued to affected customers.

Here’s a breakdown of the latest U.S. CPSC recalls.

KTEBO Writing Tablet Toy

The KTEBO Writing Tablet Toy is a digital/ LCD “doodle board” designed for kids to draw, write, scribble or doodle on — similar to old-fashioned “Magic Slate” style drawing boards, but with an LCD screen.

They’re sold in sets of two and come in a wide range of colors and two sizes (8.5 inches and 10 inches).

According to the CPSC, the tablet violates “the mandatory standard for toys because the screw used to secure the battery compartment that contains a button cell battery does not remain attached as required.”

If children swallow or ingest the battery, it could result in serious injury, internal chemical burn or death.

In order to receive a full refund, parents should write “RECALLED” on the back of both tablets and submit photos of the marked tablets to writing-tablet-recall@ktebo.com with “Recall Proof” in the subject line.

The CPSC estimates that roughly 10,380 units were sold on Amazon between September and October.

CreateOn Crayola pip-Cubes

CreateOn Crayola pip-Cubes is a magnetic building toy set for kids.

Each “cube” is a small plastic block (about 1¼ inches per side) with built-in magnets so children can snap them together to build towers, shapes, abstract 3-D constructions or simple geometric structures.

According to the CPSC, the cubes “contain magnets that can become loose if the seams separate, posing an ingestion hazard to children.” Once ingested, the magnets can become lodged in the digestive system.

This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death.

The recall affects four different models: Bold Colors, 24 Cubes (1000199); Bold Colors, 27 Cubes (1000243); Glitter Cubes, 24 Cubes (1000205) and Glitter Cubes, 27 Cubes (1000250).

The 24-cube sets were sold at Michael’s Stores and online at Michaels.com between May and July. The 27-piece sets were sold on Amazon.

Consumers who send an email to pipcuberecall@CreateOn.com will receive a pre-paid label to return the recalled magnetic cubes in order to receive a replacement set, per the CPSC.

The CPSC estimates that roughly 9,400 cube sets are affected by the recall.

Primark Water Balloon Pump

Primark Water Balloon Pumps is designed to help kids fill and inflate water balloons more easily.

The pumps are shaped like a water bottle with a spray head and the product code, 5252801, is printed on the price tag located on the back of the water balloon pump bottle.

According to the CPSC, “the water balloon pump can generate excessive pressure during use, causing the product to rupture, posing a risk of physical injury to the user or bystanders.”

You can receive a full refund in the form of the original payment by returning the item to a Primark store.

The CPSC estimates that roughly 3,170 water pumps were sold at Primark stores in the northeast and in Florida, Maryland and Illinois between March and July 2023.

There have since been two reports of cuts on users’ hands and fingers as a result of the water pump rupturing in the United States — and nine such reports internationally.

Cubimana Treehouse Building Toy Sets

The Cubimana Treehouse Building Toy Sets consist of 618 multi-colored to build a three-tier treehouse that lights up.

The design includes a “house” structure with furniture-style details (rooms, windows, maybe even pretend-animal figures), allowing kids to customize and role-play different living environments.

According to the CPSC, it violates the mandatory safety standard “because the battery compartment within the LED light piece contains button cell batteries that can be easily accessed by children.”

Swallowing or ingesting button cell batteries can cause injury, internal chemical burns and death.

Parents should send a photo of the product in the trash to Vatos Toys at shein.us@vatostoys.com for a full refund.

The CPSC estimates that only 40 units were sold on Shein.com between July and October.
