Kristin Cavallari explains her ‘one night a week’ rule with 11-year-old son, 9-year-old daughter

Ryan Brennan | August 28, 2025

Kristin Cavallari is opening up about her experience while sleep training her three kids.

On the Aug. 26 episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, the 38-year-old reality star detailed some of the difficulties she had trying to get her then-1-year-old son Jaxon to stay in his bed at night.

At the time, she had just welcomed her youngest child — a daughter named Sailor.

“Once he realized he could get out of this bed, he came in my room — I’m not kidding, guys — every single night for four years,” Cavallari said of Jaxon on her podcast.

“I'm still waking up, and I'm nursing Saylor, and now here comes Jaxon every single night,” she continued.

It wasn’t until Cavallari and her then-husband Jay Cutler, whom she divorced in 2020, moved Jaxon into a room with his older brother Camden that he stopped his habit of coming into his mom’s room at night.

But, as Cavallari has revealed in the past, she still lets her two youngest kids sleep with her — though her bed-sharing now comes with a strict rule.

“I do let (Jaxon) sleep with me. Now it's one night a week,” Cavallari said on the podcast. “So when school started, I told Jaxon and Saylor, you guys get one night a week with me.”

A 2023 survey conducted by The Lullaby Trust found that 9 in 10 parents co-sleep with their baby, but that number decreases the older the baby gets.

Cavallari shares three kids — sons Camden, 12, and Jaxon, 11, and daughter Saylor, 9 — with Cutler, a former NFL quarterback whom she tied the knot with in 2013, according to People

She filed for divorce in April 2020 and the couple reached a custody agreement one month later, per Us Weekly.

Kristin Cavallari shares the one downside of bed-sharing with your kids

This isn’t the first time Cavallari has admitted to bed-sharing with her kids.

During a 2020 Instagram Live conversation for Revolve at the height of the pandemic, Cavallari shared that she was letting her kids sleep with her as she continued to cope with her divorce from Cutler.

“I don’t normally let my kids sleep with me, but I’ve been rotating my kids for the last week,” she said at the time, according to People

“It’s cute but those are the moments that will never be the same, we’ll never get those back. So in that sense, I’ve been trying to really enjoy that time with my kids,” she added.

Now five years later, Cavallari is opening up about the one thing she doesn’t like about bed-sharing.

“I actually do enjoy sleeping with them,” she said on her Aug. 26 podcast episode. “The problem is in the morning because I get up before them.”

“I have to be so quiet in my bathroom, like brushing my teeth, and washing my face, and getting dressed,” she continued, adding that she wants the freedom to do her morning routine without waking anyone up.

Cavallari further explained that she had to limit the bed-sharing to one night per week because doing it every other night was too much to handle.

“For a while we’ve been doing every other night. And I finally was like, ‘Guys, I need a night by myself,’” she said on the podcast.
