“No kids, no nothing. It was amazing and quiet.”
Lainey Wilson is hoping her future kids choose dirt over devices.
The 33-year-old country music star might not be a mom yet, but she opened up about the type of parent she wants to be on the Aug. 28 episode of the “This Past Weekend” podcast with comedian Theo Von.
And she plans on modeling her parenting style after the way her parents raised her decades ago.

"I want to raise my kids like [I was raised], playing in the dirt," Wilson said on the podcast.
"I just want them to be outside and do things we grew up doing. You know what I'm saying? And just enjoy those things,” she continued.
Her preference stems from a conversation she had last year with 17-year-old twin boys that her fiancé Devlin “Duck” Hodges coached — and it made her realize the dangers behind screen time for kids.
"They were just, for 17 years old, carrying on great conversation, making eye contact — you could tell they were raised right," she said of raising mentally strong kids.
"And then I realized, they said they had never had social media,” she continued. "I was like, 'That's why you can carry on a conversation.’”
According to a 2025 census by Common Sense Media, 40% of children today have a tablet by the age of two and roughly 25% of children have their own smartphone by the age of eight.
“Among parents, 75% to 80% express consistent concerns about screen media, including worries about excessive use, effects on mental health, and the amount of inappropriate content,” the report reads.
Wilson went on to confirm that she doesn’t want to completely close off her kids from the outside world, but was blown away by the amount of kids she sees today with iPads and cellphones at the dinner table.
Lainey Wilson reveals where she plans on raising her future kids
Wilson and Hodges have been together for five years and engaged for six months.
The couple first met in 2021 and dated for more than two years before going public with their relationship in May 2023 at the Country Music Awards, according to People.
Wilson took to Instagram in February to announce her engagement to the former NFL quarterback.
While they haven’t revealed any wedding plans, Wilson told Von on his podcast that she plans on raising her future kids in Nashville.
But instead of raising them in the heart of the city, she hopes to settle in the countryside.
"I think Nashville is just a good spot. Even if music wasn't a thing, I think they've got good schools," Wilson said on the podcast.
"And I feel like you can go far out right now — you can go far out enough on any side and feel like you're in the country, you know?" she added.
Elsewhere on the podcast, Wilson revealed why she and Hodges have yet to tie the knot.
“Ain’t married yet. I’m making him wait,” she told Von. “He made me wait.”
Wilson went on to show off her massive engagement ring — which she says Hodges designed himself — and joked that she couldn’t say no to Hodges once he asked.
