"I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family."
Mariah Carey offered a rare, but blunt update on co-parenting with her ex-husband Nick Cannon.
The former couple share 14-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan from their six-year marriage, which lasted from 2008 to 2014, according to People.
Despite their divorce, which was finalized in 2016, Carey and Cannon remained committed to their roles as co-parents.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, published July 28, Carey tread carefully when asked about her co-parenting relationship with Cannon.
"How do I say this? They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time," she said in the interview.
Carey went on to describe her twins as “the major loves of her life.”
"I want to make sure I’m always fair about the situation because it’s tough to grow up with divorced parents,” the singer added.
Carey and Cannon met in 2005 and started dating three years later, according to People. They tied the knot in 2008 and welcomed Monroe and Moroccan on April 30, 2011.
Cannon has since welcomed 10 more children — six boys and four girls — with five different women, per People.
Cannon recently said he and Carey ‘belong together’
Carey and Cannon might not be together anymore, but Cannon has always been open to the idea.
The former “America’s Got Talent” host was asked if he would ever get back with Carey during an interview with E! News last August.
“We belong together,” Cannon replied, referencing Carey’s hit 2005 song. “Yes, absolutely. Be stupid if I wouldn’t.”
As for why he believes that will never happen, Cannon told E! News, “She don’t want me.”
The multi-talented entertainer clarified his comments one month later in an interview with People, where he joked that Carey had “moved on from my crazy antics.”
At the time, Cannon said that he and the six women he has kids with are doing “well” with co-parenting.
"Yeah, I mean, to their credit, you know what I mean? Dealing with me must be madness," he told People — adding that the secret to co-parenting is putting the kids first.
"At the end of the day, if you put the kids first and remove ego, you can do anything," he explained.
He also described watching his and Carey’s daughter become a teenager as “scary.”
"Teenagers are scary. I feel like I'm still a teenager," Cannon admitted. "To see my daughter literally becoming a young woman before my eyes, it is very scary."
While Cannon has been raising a “baseball team,” as he joked in his interview with E! News, Carey has been keeping her dating life as private as possible.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, Carey is currently rumored to be dating musician Anderson Paak.
