“The increase is not surprising, but the degree to which it did increase did catch me off guard.”
Martha Stewart isn’t a “Grammy” or “Nana.” She’s not even a “Mimi” or “Gigi.”
During a Dec. 4 interview with QVC’s Shawn Killinger, the 84-year-old bestselling author and lifestyle expert was asked about one of her most precious roles in life — being a grandma to her two grandkids.
More specifically, she was asked to reveal the name her grandchildren call her.
And her response was nothing short of “hysterical,” according to Killinger.

“Martha,” she replied. "They've called me Martha since they were born."
According to Chicco USA, the most popular grandma name in every U.S. state was “Grandma.”
Other grandma names that are popular across the country include Gram, Grammy, Granny, Meemaw, Nanny, Mimi and Gigi.
Martha went on to reveal that all of her grandkids’ friends also call her by her first name — as opposed to Mrs. Stewart — and it’s the same name her daughter, Alexis Stewart, has always called her.

Martha became a mother in 1965, roughly four years after tying the knot with Andrew Stewart, according to NBC.com. She was 19 years old at the time.
During a 2007 interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Alexis revealed that her mom “desperately” wanted grandkids — so she decided to look into in vitro fertilization (IVF) as a single mom.
Martha Stewart’s daughter welcomed her first child — daughter Jude Stewart — in 2011, followed by her second child — son Truman Stewart — the following year.
“She is the perfect mother,” Martha said of her daughter on TODAY in 2018. “Those kids are so smart, so lovely, so advanced.”
Martha Stewart says being a grandma is easier than being a mom
While talking to Killinger, Martha opened up about her relationship with her daughter Alexis.
Martha didn’t hesitate when saying that she liked being a mom, but quickly interjected that it’s “better being a grandma” because “they’re easier.”
When asked if she had a “fraught” relationship with Alexis, Martha said yes — but not when Alexis was younger.
“Even now,” she said of the relationship. “I mean, we talk. I would say we’re friends and I’m sure she loves me — sort of. But I definitely love her. And we do lots of things together.”

Martha went on to admit that her and her daughter are “very different.”
“I’m an extrovert, she is not,” she said of her daughter.
Alexis gave a similar response about her mother in a 2011 interview on the “Today” show.
"We're incredibly close and we're both very opinionated people. So while we can be together having a nice time, we can also have an animated discussion-slash-argument about something,” Alexis said.
