Matthew McConaughey’s son is following in his father’s (and grandmother’s) footsteps.
Levi Alves McConaughey, the 17-year-old son of Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves, is making his acting debut alongside his father and grandmother, Kay McConaughey, in “The Lost Bus.”
The film made its official world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 5.
While talking to E! News on the red carpet, the father-son duo opened up about what it was like working together and how the three-generation family affair came together.

“I had no idea he was even interested,” Matthew McConaughey said of his son’s acting career.
“I came home, I pitched the story to the family — as I always do — and I get to the part about my son and (Levi) says, “Well, how old is your son?” the Academy Award winner continued.
In the movie, Matthew McConaughey plays Kevin McKay — and Levi McConnaughey plays his son, Sean, according to IMDB.
When Matthew McConaughey told his real-life son that his character’s son was about the same age as him, Levi McConaughey was quick to ask if he could audition for the role.

“They got him on camera, read for it and I said ‘Wow, he can hold the frame, he’s got the instinct for it,’” Matthew McConaughey explained.
In an effort to help his son get the role, he had Levi’s last name redacted before sending the tape to director Paul Greengrass.
“And Paul looks at it and says, ‘That’s the kid!’” Matthew McConaughey continued.
Matthew McConaughey’s son recalls the moment he learned he got the part
Before his father crashed his interview, Levi McConaughey opened up about the phone call he received from Greengrass — when he first found out that he earned the role.
And it was a phone call he was not expecting to get.
“I knew it was a good audition,” he told E! News. “But I did not think I was gonna get the part. I’ve never acted before, really on this level.”
Levi goes on to explain that his father handed him the phone one day. Greengrass, who was on the other line, asked him if he wanted to play Sean, Kevin McKay’s son, in the film.
Levi played it cool while on the phone, but said he immediately started crying once hanging up.

“I remember that day,” Matthew McConaughey chimes in. “You acted cool on the phone and you were excited. Then when you hung up, you realized it. Voila.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Levi McConaughey was asked if he had fun on set.
“Of course, how could you not have fun on the set? The scenes we were doing were intense” he said. “I mean, how could you not? That’s my grandma, that’s my dad.”
Matthew McConaughey’s mom was cast as Sherry McKay, Kevin McKay’s disabled mother.
“We actually have myself, Levi and my mother all in the same scene,” Matthew McConaughey told E! News. “I don’t know when the last time that was done. There’s three generations.”
In addition to Levi, Matthew McConaughey shares two other kids — daughter Vida, 15, and son Livingston, 12 — with his wife Camila Alves, according to Today.
