“Why am I gonna cover up what I can show off?”
Max Greenfield is “all-in” on his kids getting involved in sports.
The 45-year-old “New Girl” star shares daughter Lilly, 15, and son Ozzie, 9, with his wife and former casting director Tess Sanchez, whom he married in 2008, per People.
With summer coming to an end, Greenfield has one priority on his mind.

“My daughter just started volleyball, which I’m really excited about,” he said in an interview with Parade, published Aug. 4. “I’m excited for her season, and the kids start school soon, so that’s the priority.”
As far as what type of sports parent Greenfield is, don’t expect to see him “yelling on the sidelines.”
“(That) isn’t my vibe,” he told Parade. “I do all the driving. And then I pretend to be very cool and calm, but inside (I’m) truly dying the whole time.”
Greenfield’s comments come a few days after Subaru announced their partnership with the actor and education advocate as part of their continued support for AdoptAClassroom.org.
AdoptAClassroom.org is a national nonprofit that provides classroom funding to PreK-12 teachers and schools throughout the U.S., according to its official website.
While talking to Parade, Greenfield said he “can’t help but try to be a part of some sort of solution, even in the smallest way.”
“Just to be a part of that overall initiative, especially with the school year coming up, just felt like a really wonderful opportunity,” he told the outlet.
Greenfield says becoming a parent made him more appreciative of teachers
In an interview with People, also published Aug. 4, Greenfield opened up about what made his partnership with Subaru Loves Learning so personal and “natural.”
“I was teaching my daughter during lockdown — not very successfully,” he told People. “I don’t know what type of education she received, but it inspired something.”
Greenfield went on to say that homeschooling his children helped him appreciate the sacrifices teachers make daily.
“Every school I’ve been to, the intention is always the same: to nurture, to uplift, to give these kids what they need,” he explained.
“But what’s missing is so often the simplest stuff. It’s almost unbelievable what some of these schools go without,” he added.
While his days as a teacher are long gone, the actor used what he learned from that experience to write a series of children’s books.
He released “I Don't Want to Read This Book” in 2021, “This Book Is Not a Present” in 2022, “I Don't Want to Read This Book Aloud” in 2023 and “Good Night Thoughts” in 2024.
“When the first one came out, people were like, ‘Schmidt wrote a children’s book?!’” Greenfield told People, referring to himself as his “New Girl” character Schmidt.
“But now I’ll go to book events, and teachers show up and tell me how they use them with their students. It’s been such an organic journey,” he added.

“I’ve just been so lucky. So to be able to give back feels like a natural extension of everything I’ve been fortunate to do,” he explained.
