Robin Wright was the good cop in her household — but she wishes she was more like the bad cop.
The 59-year-old “Forrest Gump” actress opened up about her role as a mom and how her views on parenting have changed over the years in an interview with The Times, published Aug. 30.
And her synopsis included a “huge regret” that she still thinks about to this day.

“I have a huge regret as a mother and have experienced the fallout of this regret for many years with my kids — I wasn’t hard enough on them,” Wright told the outlet of her lack of tough love parenting.
The eight-time Emmy Award nominee shares two adult kids — daughter Dylan Frances, 34, and son Hopper Jack, 32 — with her ex-husband Sean Penn, according to People..
Wright went on to reveal that Penn was much more strict with their kids than she was.
“He was gone so much of the time. He’d come back and be the policeman and then he’d leave me with the residue,” she said of his strict parenting.
“Then I would soften the blow. We were both extremes. They didn’t get that grey area in the middle, which is stern, and that is what they needed,” she added.

The couple welcomed Dylan in 1991 and Hopper in 1993 before tying the knot in 1996, per People. They were together on-and-off for more than a decade before finalizing their divorce in 2010.

After divorcing Penn, Wright spent the next decade looking for her forever companion.
She started dating actor Ben Foster in 2012 and they got engaged in 2014, but the couple never married and eventually ended their engagement in 2015 after an on-and-off relationship, per People.
Wright went on to marry French fashion executive Clément Giraudet in 2018 before filing for divorce in 2022, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Not long after, she crossed paths with Henry Smith — a British-born, Australian-raised architect.
The two hit it off immediately and bonded over their respective experiences with long COVID, which gave them the time they needed to get to know each other.
“He is a sweetheart and just a good, decent adult. He’s a man,” she told The Times of her new man.
“Getting to know each other in deep long Covid was like what’s that called at the airport? The fast track. We did a fast-track getting to know you,” she added.
While things are going well between the two of them, Wright was quick to denounce another marriage.
“No. God no. Why? That’s just unnecessary,” she told The Times — though she does want a companion.

“I love being alone and I’ve done that many times. But I’m, like, I want to grow old with somebody, and travel and see the world,” she continued.
