Savannah Guthrie says summer is a mindset — especially when the kiddos aren’t around.
The 53-year-old “Today” show anchor and chief legal correspondent for NBC News returned to “Jenna & Friends” on Labor Day as a guest co-host alongside her longtime friend Jenna Bush Hager.
And the Sept. 1 episode began with a conversation about how they spent their time while their kids were at summer sleep away camps.

“We did something that hasn’t happened in 11 years,” Guthrie said of her and her husband Michael Feldman. "Both of our kids went to sleep away camp for three weeks.”
“No kids, no nothing. It was amazing and quiet,” Guthrie added of the experience.
Guthrie and Feldman have been together since 2009 and tied the knot in 2014, according to People.
The couple went on to welcome two children together — an 11-year-old daughter named Vale, born in 2014, and an 8-year-old son Charley, born in 2016.
While many parents would struggle being away from their children for three weeks, Guthrie and Feldman made the most of their experience — albeit in a relaxing way.
“At first, we were like, 'Should we go out to dinner? Should we do this or that?' And we did that for a couple days,” she told Bush Hager. “And then we started getting in bed at 6:30 to watch TV and read."
Guthrie went on to compare it to when she and Feldman first started dating — before having kids.
"It reminded me of when we were dating, we had no kids, and on a Saturday you'd wake up and be like, 'What should we do today?'" she explained.

Despite their three-week staycation away from their kids, Guthrie and Feldman still made the most of their summer with Vale and Charley.
On July 6, Guthrie took to Citi Field where she threw the ceremonial first pitch for the New York Mets — and her husband and two kids cheered her on from the infield, per Today.
In an Instagram video prior to the pitch, Guthrie asked her kids if they were ready, to which Vale responded, “You’re nerve-cited!”
“I’m nerve-cited,” Guthrie reiterated. “Nervous, excited.”
In a separate video, Guthrie’s son jokes that he should be the one throwing the pitch instead of Guthrie.
“She’s been preparing in our backyard,” Charley said of her mom in an interview. “I feel like she’s gonna do great.”
On Aug. 13, Guthrie continued her summer with a birthday shoutout for her 11-year-old daughter.
“This is 11 - happy birthday to my beautiful girl” she wrote in the Instagram caption alongside several pictures of Vale — including one of Vale and her mom on an ice cream trip.
The shoutout came just a few weeks after Guthrie admitted to having her daughter sign a contract before giving her access to her own iCloud account.
Savannah Guthrie’s kids don’t have devices, but the contract is helping her teach them responsibility for when that day comes.
“It was basically, like, ‘I know that Mommy and Daddy love me more than anything in the world,’” she explained on the Aug. 20 episode of “Jenna & Friends.”

“I know that Mommy and Daddy can read my texts. I know I will not put in a text anything I wouldn’t want grandma and grandpa to see,” she continued of the contract.
