As most parents and elementary school teachers will tell you, kids love to tell stories about what goes on in their lives.
Savannah Guthrie’s recovery from vocal cord surgery is in full effect.
The 54-year-old “Today” show anchor and chief legal correspondent for NBC News told viewers on Dec. 19 that she would be stepping away from the show for a few weeks to undergo surgery.
“I have vocal nodules, and now I also have a polyp,” she said at the time, per TODAY.com.
“It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks. So it’s my last day for a little while,” she added.
Now that Savannah Guthrie’s surgery has passed, she must stay “totally silent” for a few weeks.

On Jan. 5, the mom of two returned to Instagram to share how she has been communicating with her family as she continues to recover from surgery.
“All good! Thanks for prayers and love!” she wrote on a whiteboard in a photo on Instagram.
“See you soon!” she added in the caption.
While the whiteboard was primarily intended to help jot her thoughts down, it appears her two kids have been hogging it over the past few days — and she shared evidence on her Instagram Story on Jan. 6.
“The kids have fully taken over the white board,” she wrote alongside a photo of a picture her son drew of a house on the whiteboard, per TODAY.com.
Her daughter, on the other hand, drew a picture of a vase filled with flowers.
“Flowers for you!” she wrote above the drawing. “Get well soon!”
Guthrie and her husband Michael Feldman, who have been married since 2014, share two kids together — an 11-year-old daughter named Vale, born in 2014, and an 8-year-old son Charley, born in 2016.
Savannah Guthrie is using more than just the whiteboard
When she’s not writing (or drawing) on her whiteboard, Guthrie is making use of a hilarious gift.
Also on Jan. 6, Guthrie posted a photo of her hand next to a green button with a check mark on it and a red button with an “X” on it.
“Hilarious and useful gift from friend — yes and no buttons,” she wrote in a text overlay. “One guess which is getting used more.”
As for what happened to Savannah Guthrie, the “Today” show host underwent surgery to address her scratchy voice and frequent voice cracking, which was caused by vocal cord lesions.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, vocal cord lesions, which include polyps and nodules, are growths that form on your vocal cords that often make it difficult or painful to talk or sing.
Most vocal cord lesions are a result of overusing or misusing your voice.

Guthrie has yet to reveal when she’ll return to the “Today” show, but she revealed in a Jan. 6 Instagram Story that she has to be “silent for a week,” so that return should be coming soon.
