Stay-at-home mom goes viral for weekly invoice she sends her husband

Ryan Brennan | April 16, 2025

A stay-at-home mom is going viral for the weekly invoice she sends her husband.

On March 31, Amber Egan — known as Amber Audrey on social media — took to her TikTok account to reveal how she is “able to be the breadwinner as a stay at home mom.”

In the video, Egan reads through a list of everything she charges her husband for her stay-at-home mom services

The list included a $20 charge per load of dishes, $35 per load of laundry, $60 to clean the bathroom, $100 to clean the floor, $75 for grocery shopping and $10 per day to sweep the house.

It also included an $800 weekly charge for homeschool tuition and $200 for breastfeeding the baby.

“So, the total that I charge my husband every week for all of my stay-at-home services is about $2,700,” Egan reveals in the video. “If he wants to save money, he can help me do any of these tasks.”

“It doesn’t leave much for him at the end of the month,” she continues — further arguing that it does leave her enough room to pay her mortgage, car payment, and all the other bills that come her way.

“So, ultimately, it does kind of make me the breadwinner in my household,” she adds.

Egan is one of the 25% of mothers in the United States who are stay-at-home moms — a number that rose from 15% just one year prior, according to Motherly’s State of Motherhood 2023 Survey Report.

Her video has been viewed nearly six million times in two weeks — and users have had their fair share of mixed reactions over it.

“Divorce is your future if not the paperwork is already filed,” wrote one critical user.

“This may be satire, but it 100% puts into perspective how much sahms actually do and that it’s actually a full time job,” another comment read.

In an interview with People, published April 13, Egan confirmed that the video was satire and she doesn’t actually charge her husband for her stay-at-home mom services.

She did, however, provide a reasonable explanation for why she posted the video.

"I wanted to make it so stay-at-home moms could feel seen and then also know that just because you're not bringing home a paycheck, that doesn't mean that you're not doing work that's valuable,” she told People.

Egan says that just because the tasks might seem easy, they add up to a lot — both physically and mentally.

"You think that being a stay-at-home mom means you get to spend all day with your kids,” she adds. “Like, 'Oh, you do laundry and you do dishes and you cook, that's not hard.' All those things are a lot.”

Sharing because I feel like I cannot be the only mom that feels this way! Motherhood is HARD, and I think it’s important that we’re showing up and trying to be better and do better every day 🩷 #motherhood #mother #momsoftiktok #sahmsoftiktok #sahmomsbelike #momsbelike #momtok #momthings #momthoughts #mommy #sahmoftiktok #sahmlife #motherhoodunfiltered #motherhoodjourney

Egan also opened up about the isolation most stay-at-home moms experience on a daily basis.

"Being a stay-at-home mom is very isolating, and you lose a piece of who you are. I suggest other moms to find something that grounds you,” she explains.

For her, that means listening to Chris Stapleton — a country music artist who she says makes her feel more like herself.

"I encourage other stay-at-home moms that feel like they've lost a little piece of themselves to find something small that grounds you and says 'This is me as an individual, and this is who I am,'" she adds.

She also praises her husband for being supportive of her speaking out on issues that are important to her.

"Oh, I hit the jackpot, and I can appreciate it that much more,” she tells People of her husband. “It also can give you perspective to think [about how] not everybody gets this."
