Pro golfer Brooks Koepka and his wife, actress and model Jena Sims have revealed some sad news. Sims had been carrying the couple's second child, but lost it to a miscarriage at 16 weeks.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model shared the details in an Instagram gallery post on Monday, Oct. 6, adding a trigger warning for pregnancy loss and infertility.
"At 16 weeks, we learned that our baby’s heart had stopped beating," the 36-year-old wrote. "This is a grief no parent is ever prepared for. We are devastated, but remain hopeful to give Crew a sibling one day."
Sims was referring to her two-year-old son with Koepka, Crew Sims Koepka, who was born on July 27, 2023.
"Too often, these struggles happen in silence. There is still so much work and research needed to better understand and support women’s reproductive health," she continued. "If you’re experiencing or have experienced pregnancy loss or infertility, please know you are not alone."
Finally, Sims said that she wanted to recognize the doctors and nurses who have to deliver heartbreaking news like she received every day. "It has to be the hardest part of their job, and I’m holding space in my heart for you too," she added.
The accompanying gallery of images featured a photo of Sims' sonogram, a photo of her growing bump poking out from under a white crop top, and a gender reveal cake; evidently revealing that Crew was going to have a little brother.
Koepka and Sims wed on June 4, 2022, in a destination wedding in Turks and Caicos that featured a performance by rapper Ludacris at the afterparty.
It was just over a year later that the couple welcomed their son. At the time, Sims shared on her Instagram story that Crew was "ready for the world" because he decided to break her water just two minutes after Koepka walked in the house from the gym, a full six weeks ahead of her due date. "Already showing who's boss 😉," she wrote, via People.
"My incredible team had him out in a matter of three hours after going in to active labor," she continued. "He was still breech so they had to do a C-section. Crew was earth-side in three hours and arrived at 8:31 pm. She added a thank you to her team of doctors as well as her doula for "clearing your Thursday night for us."
Hopefully, by sharing the heartbreaking loss of the couple's second child will help destigmatize miscarriages and provide support for any other parents going through the same thing.
