After 18 years of watching her son grow up, Lauren Sanchez had to say goodbye for the first time.
The 55-year-old award-winning journalist, who married billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in June, took to her Instagram Stories to share a “heartbroken” but “grateful” mom moment.
On Monday, Aug. 11, the mom of three dropped her middle child Evan off at college for the first time.

“Dropped off Evan at college today. 18 years of early mornings, late night snacks and family dinners.... and then there he was building his own dorm cabinet," she wrote in the Instagram Story.
The post included a photo of Evan putting together a black cabinet on the floor of his dorm room and was set to David Bowie’s 1999 remastered hit “Changes.”
“A small thing but in that moment I saw the start of his next chapter. Proud. Heartbroken. Grateful,” she added in the post.
A few hours later, Sanchez posted a vintage photo of Evan in his early school years next to what appears to be one of his classmates.
“How did we just drop these two cuties off at the same college,” she wrote in a text overlay. “Friends for life.”
In December, Sanchez took to her Instagram Stories to reveal that Evan will be studying business at the University of Miami.
“My heart is bursting,” Sanchez wrote at the time, according to People. “Beyond proud of you.”
Lauren Sanchez children have been kept out of the spotlight
Sanchez shares two children — Evan and daughter Ella, 17 — with her ex-husband and Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, whom she married in 2005 before divorcing in 2019, per People.
She also shares a 24-year-old son Nikko, born in 2001, with her ex-boyfriend and Hall of Fame NFL player Tony Gonzalez, according to the outlet.
In late-June, Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos tied the knot in Venice.
In addition to being a stepfather to Lauren Sanchez kids, Bezos also shares four kids with his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, whom he was married to between 1993 and 2019, per USA Today.
The former couple have largely kept their three sons and one daughter out of the spotlight.

As for Lauren Sanchez children, two of them — Nikko and Evan — stood alongside their mother as they walked her down the aisle in June, according to Vogue. Her daughter Ella was her maid of honor.
