“My mom is truthfully so devastated, she’s so upset. She’s not excited at all for me to have a baby.”
Julia Roberts and George Clooney aren’t afraid to admit to being strict parents.
The frequent co-stars, who have appeared together in films such as “Ocean's Eleven” and “Ticket to Paradise,” recently sat down for a joint interview for “72 Magazine,” published on Sept. 12.
In a sneak peek of the interview, shared by Us Weekly on Sept. 10, Roberts admits that she and her husband Danny Moder were “considered some of the stricter parents” when their kids were growing up.
“Not like we’re laying down the law, but these are the rules and they don’t change,” she explained.
“Here’s the boundary of your life and it does not shift. You know, you don’t ask me and get an answer and then go ask dad and get a different answer. That doesn’t happen. It will never happen,” she added.
Roberts went on to say that her strict parenting style helped instill a sense of stability in her kids’ lives.
“I think that is what creates the stability that then allows them to feel secure because you know there is this fixed world of love and safety that exists unconditionally,” she continued.

Julia Roberts and Danny Moder, who rarely talk about their life as parents, first met in 2000 on the set of “The Mexican” — in which Roberts was starring and Moder was a cameraman, according to People.
The longtime couple started dating shortly after Moder’s divorce from Vera Steimberg and tied the knot in 2002 before starting a family several years later.
They welcomed twins Phinnaeus and Hazel in 2004, followed by son Henry in 2007, per People.

Elsewhere in their interview with “72 Magazine,” Roberts and Clooney shared their thoughts on one of the hottest debates in parenting: screen time for kids.
Roberts admitted that her three kids were “some of the last kids in their peer groups to get phones.”
Clooney — who shares 8-year-old twins Alexander and Ella with his wife Amal Clooney, according to People — shared that he still doesn’t know how to manage internet use with his two kids.
“I’m not on any of them, but only because I find that my life is so much simpler without doing it. But I worry about kids. I worry about my kids, obviously,” he explained — adding that he grew up in a different era.
Clooney was 53 years old when he married his wife and 56 when they started their family.
“The risks are so much bigger and the consequences follow you for so much longer,” he added of the difference. “I’m worried about my kids; we keep them off the internet as much as we can.”
“But, you know, some of their homework is done on a computer. And they do like to watch a good Snoopy movie and things like that,” he continued.
According to a 2025 census by Common Sense Media, 40% of children today have a tablet by the age of two and roughly 25% of children have their own smartphone by the age of eight.

“Among parents, 75% to 80% express consistent concerns about screen media, including worries about excessive use, effects on mental health, and the amount of inappropriate content,” the report reads.
