BBC Studios announces release date for ‘Bluey’ feature film. Here’s what you need to know!

Ryan Brennan | September 6, 2025

“Bluey: The Movie” is coming to a theatre near you — and we now have a release date.

The show’s first-ever feature-length film was previously teased with a 2027 release after BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios announced the project in December 2024, per a news release.

On Sept. 5, the two companies confirmed that the much-anticipated film will be released Aug. 6, 2027.

While it’s likely to be the most popular movie release of 2027, many fans took to Bluey’s official Instagram page to share their disappointment about having to wait a whole two years to see the movie.

“Advertising this with a 2 year wait is wildly rude lol,” one user wrote under the show’s announcement.

“So sad to think my current bluey loving girlies are possibly going to be “too cool” for bluey by the time this comes out,” another parent commented.

One parent questioned why the show would announce the release date 11 months early, which resulted in another user replying to their comment with a correction.

“It's 2 years away not one - sorry to disappoint you further,” the user replied.

“I’m seated. the theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because it’s “not 2027 yet” but i’m simply too seated,” another Instagram user joked.

The announcement comes two months after Nielsen released their streaming ratings for the first half of 2025 (from January to June).

“Bluey” was the most-watched program with more than 25 billion minutes viewed, beating out “Grey’s Anatomy” (22.55 billion), “NCIS” (19.12), “Family Guy” (19.07) and “Bob’s Burgers” (17.1), per Nielsen.

Of those five, “Bluey” had the smallest library with 154 episodes — most of which are no more than 10 minutes long, according to the show’s official website.

Here’s everything we know about ‘Bluey: The Movie’ so far

Fans got their initial taste of the “Bluey” movie on Dec. 17 when it was announced for the first time.

In a news release at the time, The Walt Disney Company confirmed that it had acquired the global theatrical rights for the film under the Disney banner.

Following its global theatrical release, the film would be available to stream on Disney+.

“Bluey: The Movie” will be written and directed by “Bluey” creator Joe Brumm, who will also serve as the executive producer alongside Justine Flynn, Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson.

“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” Brumm said, per the news release.

Here’s more information about the award-winning team bringing the “Bluey” movie to life:

  • Produced by Amber Naismith, who has worked on “Happy Feet” and “The Lego Movie,” per IMDB
  • Co-directed by Richard Jeffery, the main director for the first three seasons of “Bluey”
  • Overseen by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios
  • Financed and licensed by BBC Studios
  • Distributed by Walt Disney Studios

Along with Brumm and Jeffery, the “Bluey” cast will also remain the same.

Melanie Zanetti, who voices Bluey’s mom Chili, and David McCormack, the voice of Bluey’s dad Bandit, will return to their roles for the feature film.

And let’s not forget about the music — which will come from “Bluey” composer Joff Bush.

The rest of the voice cast — including Bluey, Bingo and all the other “Bluey” characters — have never been publicly revealed, but there’s a good reason for that.

“Bluey, Bingo and some of their friends are voiced by children of the production crew,” Brumm said in a 2019 interview with “The New Daily.” The goal of not sharing their identities is so that the children can remain living normal lives.

“Bluey,” which premiered in Australia in 2018 before making its international debut on Disney Junior, released its most recent episode, “Surprise!” on April 21 — the 50th episode of “Bluey”s third series.

20 minisodes have since been released in three parts — one in June 2024, one in October and the other in December — according to the show’s official website
