Benny Blanco may have found a successful love with pop star Selena Gomez, but when it comes to his professional success, Blanco tells InStyle that he has his mom to thank for that.
In his interview with InStyle, published on Wednesday, June 4, Blanco said he first met his future wife professionally when she was just 16 years old. They were introduced by Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefy.
It wasn’t until years later that Blanco and Gomez finally worked together. It was even longer that their friendship turned romantic. Now, they are engaged to be married.

“They say you've probably already met the person that you're gonna spend the rest of your life with… I never believed that s*** until it happened to me,” he told InStyle. “And now I get to kiss her. It’s like my own little fairytale I concocted.”
Concocted, maybe, with the help of his mom.
As Blanco continued, he told InStyle that his mom inspired his career that ultimately led him to the love of his life.
“My mom always took the time to explain how a female mind works because she was going through so many dating traumas when I was growing up,” the 37-year-old music producer shared, especially as his mom and dad were going through a divorce.
According to Blanco, it was his mom’s love for painting and music that was a source of his own creativity, joy, and tenderness. “I’ve had some tough times, but I've always been like a very happy person. I just wake up stoked every day.”
Some of those tough times included sleeping “in the train station, a park, or even the McDonald’s in Times Square” during the beginning of his career.
His parents, however, were unaware for Blanco’s past sleeping arrangements.
“They didn't really know. Are you kidding me? My mom would have lost her mind if she knew I was sleeping on a park bench!”
Even when Blanco started working with some of the biggest names in the music business, he told InStyle that his mom often hoped he would have a backup plan.
“I was like, ‘Mom, I'm going in the studio with Britney Spears,’” Blanco recalls. “She was like, ‘No, you're not.’ And I was like, ‘I swear, I am!’ That's how it was. Even when my songs got big, my mom was like, ‘Yeah, but what's your backup plan?’”
Now, in the midst of his success and finding love, Blanco is excited to become a father. “I love kids; I love being an uncle,” he intimates. “I want to be a dad, though, God willing. I'm just dreaming and praying every day.”
