Seth Meyers and Maya Rudolph reveal the one Halloween rule they refuse to break with their kids

Seth Meyers and Maya Rudolph can agree on one thing come spooky season. 

The 53-year-old comedian, best known for her time on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” appeared on the Oct. 23 episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” when the two started talking about Halloween traditions. 

"Halloween, big time for a parent who has four children," Meyers said to the “Loot” actress. 

Rudolph, who has been dating filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson since 2001, shares four children — Pearl, 20, Lucille, 15, Jack, 14, and Minnie Ida, 12 — with her “husband,” as she calls him, per People. 

“I have multiple childs,” Meyers continued, referring to his three kids — Ashe Olson, 9, Alex Strahl, 7, and Adelaide Ruth, 4 — whom he shares with wife Alexi Ashe, according to People. 

Meyers went on to discuss one of the things he dislikes about the Halloween season. 

“There’s also, like, multiple Halloween festivities,” he said to Rudolph. “There’s, like, a school party, then there’s, like, Halloween proper.”

“And the amount my kids are like, ‘I want to be a baseball catcher for one, and then a ninja… I’m, like, ‘Woah, woah, woah,” he continued — adding that he has a one-costume-only rule in his house.

Rudolph agreed that wanting to dress up in “multiple costumes” was asking a bit too much. 

“This isn’t the Oscars, honey! We’re not changing for the after party!” Rudolph joked. 

Maya Rudolph once had a different opinion about Halloween costumes

Rudolph’s joke about Halloween costumes contradicts something she said roughly five years ago. 

For those who don’t know, Rudolph starred in Adam Sandler’s 2020 Halloween movie “Hubie Halloween” — where she played Mary Hennessey, one of Hubie’s old classmates who often pranks him. 

While talking about the film in a 2020 interview with BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales, Rudolph was asked if she had any fond memories of Halloween growing up. 

And one of her fondest memories was dressing up — in multiple costumes. 

“I think trick-or-treating has always been a fun memory,” she told Morales. “For me, it was always an excuse to dress up. I like dressing up, maybe a little too much.” 

She went on to explain how she would often wear one costume to school and a different one while trick-or-treating. 

“I’m gonna be a mime at school — a tap-dancing mime — but then when I go out I’m gonna be an angel on roller skates,” she continued.

According to Google’s “Frightgeist” data, the most popular Halloween costumes this year include characters from “KPop Demon Hunters,” “Minecraft” or “Wicked.”
