Actress Rebel Wilson’s family is growing again!
Drew Barrymore grew emotional during a recent conversation with Brad Falchuk, the creator of Netflix’s Famous Last Words, as the two discussed death, presence, and the fear that comes with loving deeply.
“I think the only reason I don’t want to leave this earth is because of my kids,” Barrymore admitted. “They have raised the stakes. They came along and now I’m afraid of death. Now I don’t want to leave them even though I know at one point I’m going to have to.”
She went on to reflect on how becoming a mother has reshaped her relationship with mortality. “How do I make peace with that and be the fierce warrior for them and their journey?” she asked. “I think that it’s so wonderful that we stop avoiding the inevitable and maybe even start to embrace it in our own individual ways for what works for us.”
Falchuk responded by encouraging a more universal perspective on loss. “The way to do it is to really not personalize it, right?” he said.
“At some point you’re going to die, and the people who care that you die are going to have a hard time with it. And at some point they’re going to die too, and anyone who’s personally affected by you dying will be gone. So this is how it is. This is what happens. And that’s ok. That's for everybody who has ever lived, how I live my life is all that really matters.”
He went on to say, “how I am interacting with these people, how I am loving them, all that really matters is the process of your life, so all you have is this moment here.”
Barrymore nodded, adding, “It’s the definition of being present.”
Comments have been flooding the actress’ Instagram with words of support surrounding the emotional conversation. “Beautiful conversation and it is part of life we will have to come to terms with one day,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “So, so true. The thought of not being there for them is overwhelming. All of us need help with this one.”
The 50-year-old shares two daughters with her ex-husband Will Kopelman: Olive, born in September 2012, and Frankie, born in April 2014. Barrymore has often spoken about the joys and challenges of motherhood, describing how her girls have profoundly changed her priorities, her perspective on life, and the way she cherishes each moment.
