Hilaria Baldwin opens up about balancing motherhood during a ‘dark and difficult’ time

Ryan Brennan | October 2, 2025

Hilaria Baldwin is opening up about a self-proclaimed “parenting win” during a “dark and difficult time.”

The 41-year-old wife of Alec Baldwin took to her “Growing Up Together” podcast, which she hosts with her 11-year-old daughter Carmen Baldwin, to talk about her family’s temporary move to Los Angeles.

The Baldwins, who reside in New York, are in LA to support their mom on “Dancing with the Stars.”

During the podcast episode, which was released on Sept. 27, Hilaria asked her daughter how she felt about the move — and Carmen was all for it, especially since the family hasn’t traveled much recently.

Hilaria went on to explain the reasoning behind the family’s lack of traveling in recent years.

“Because we were dealing with the trial. We were dealing with your dad, who was very sick. The spring break before that he almost died and was in the hospital,” the mom of seven explained.

Hilaria was talking about her husband’s 2023 health scare when he spent a week in the hospital.

“When I brought him out of the hospital, he was walking with a walker because he couldn’t walk,” Hilaria revealed,” Hilaria revealed in her “Manual Not Included” book released in May, per TV Insider

On the podcast, Hilaria said she was forced to find a balance between “taking care of daddy,” while also preparing for the trial and trying “to be a mom as well.”

“Everything felt so dark and difficult,” she told her daughter.

In an effort to “bring joy” into her family’s life, the Baldwins took a trip to New Jersey — which was close enough to New York that Alec could spend time on vacation while also being “in and out of a hospital.”

The family ended up having a great time together — and Hilaria described it as a “parenting win.”

“One of the reasons it was so scary is I’m responsible for so many people and if I get it wrong I’m, like, messing with the happiness and mental health of so many people,” she explained.

“We were able to create joy during a hard time and that was a parenting win for me during a really dark time,” she added.

Hilaria Baldwin felt equally as scared moving her family to LA

Hilaria went on to liken that experience with what the family is going through now in LA.

“So many times I’m making choices for you guys, like what we’re doing right now. I don’t know if I’ve made the right decision,” she said of the fact that she might be one of the first to get kicked off the show.

“I brought my whole family out here,” she added.

Hilaria Baldwin’s daughter comforted her by saying: “But at least you tried.”

Hilaria was confirmed as a DWTS contestant in August, according to People, and was paired with DWTS pro Gleb Savchenko when the rest of the cast was revealed on Sept. 3.

Despite her fears that she would be voted off in the show’s first week, Hilaria has now made it through the show’s first three weeks without elimination.

Former NBA star Baron Davis and actor Corey Feldman were the first two celebrities eliminated on Sept. 23, followed by Fifth Harmony singer Lauren Jauregui on Sept. 30, according to Today.com.

In fact, Hilaria had the third-best score through two weeks and tied for the fifth-best score in week three.

And her family has been cheering her on the whole way through.

Alec Baldwin and the couple’s seven children — daughters Carmen, María and Ilaria, and sons Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo and Eduardo — were sitting front row during the show’s Sept. 30 episode, per People

They were also all at the eliminations on Sept. 24 when Hilaria was nearly eliminated before being saved by viewer votes.

"My kids came up to me and they said that they almost cried that I was standing there, so it's like, 'Let's not do that again,' because it'll make me cry," Hilaria told People following the eliminations.

"And it will make them cry, and then we'll all be sad,” she added.
