“I had no idea obviously — no one could — of the longevity of its life."
Country singer Thomas Rhett and his family are grieving the unfortunate loss of their beloved family dog, Kona.
On November 26, Rhett took to Instagram to share the unfortunate news with his followers
Rhett posted a simple black and white photo of the pup, alongside a caption memorializing her.
“It’s been a tough dog month for our family. We lost our little Kona girl. I think after cash passed she just wanted to go be with him,” Rhett wrote, referencing the loss of their other dog, Cash, last month.
“It’s weird losing a dog, cause whether you know it or not they are just always there, always by your side at the dinner table. They are truly a part of your family,” he continued in the post.
Rhett then shared that music has been helping him get through such a sad time.
“Got the courage last night to listen to @hardy song ‘Dog years’ I cried like a child, but dang that song is so spot on about the life of a dog if they could talk. Kona and Cash yall will be missed a lot. I know yall are having a blast up in heaven together.”
In the comments, fans expressed their sympathies for the grieving family.
“I’m so sorry TR.. losing a dog is one of the hardest things to go through, especially with your kiddos. That song got me too! ‘If love alone could keep them here, they’d live forever,’” one fan wrote in the comments.
This comes just six weeks after the loss of the family’s other dog, Cash, which Rhett announced on Instagram on October 16.
“Today our sweet little Cash man went to go be with Jesus. He was the most loyal, kind dog that I have ever known. He was Lauren’s best friend,” Rhett said in the post, referencing the pup’s relationship with his wife, Lauren Akins.
The post contained a carousel of images of Cash enjoying life with the family, posing for pictures with the kids and running around outside.
“He was there when every single baby came home for the first time. He would stay up so many late nights with her while she was sick and I was gone,” Rhett continued.
Rhett then ended the post with a reminder to everyone to appreciate their pets while they’re still around.
“I never in a million years thought that a dog I got so frustrated with for eating food or tearing up things in the house would make me this sad,” he wrote. “If you’ve got a dog, go give them some extra love. Our house is so quiet today. I know Cash is running around in heaven and will be the first one to greet us when we get there.”
“They are our favorite hello and one of our hardest goodbyes. 💔 So very sorry for y’all’s great loss,” one fan said in the comments.
