“I am so nervous. I did not sleep. This is the first time I’ve ever left the baby, so I was crying yesterday.”
Tom Hanks is sharing his honest thoughts about his daughter’s bombshell memoir.
The 68-year-old “Forrest Gump” star shares two children — son Colin Lewes, 47, and daughter Elizabeth Ann, 43 — with his first wife, Samantha Lewes, who he divorced in 1987 after nine years of marriage.
Tom Hanks is also a dad to sons Chet, 34, and Truman, 29, whom he shares with his current wife, Rita Wilson.

While walking the red carpet at the premiere of his new film, “The Phoenician Scheme,” on May 26, Tom Hanks spoke with Access Hollywood about his lone daughter, who recently published her first memoir.
The book, “The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road” by E.A. Hanks, was released on April 8.
“We all come from checkered, cracked lives, all of us,” Tom Hanks told Access Hollywood, adding that he’s proud of his daughter and “not surprised” that she shared her story in such an honest way.
“My daughter had the wherewithal, as well as the curiosity and … the ‘shoot herself in the foot’ kind of wherewithal in order to examine this thing that I think she was incredibly honest about,” Tom Hanks said.
In the book, E.A. Hanks accuses her mother, who died of lung cancer in 2002, of emotional and physical abuse throughout her childhood.
“I lived in a white house with columns, a backyard with a pool, and a bedroom with pictures of horses plastered on every wall,” she wrote in the memoir, per an excerpt shared by People.
“As the years went on, the backyard became so full of dog s--- that you couldn’t walk around it, the house stank of smoke. The fridge was bare or full of expired food more often than not,” she recounts.
“One night, her emotional violence became physical violence,” she wrote.
In his May 26 interview, Tom Hanks acknowledged the fact that his daughter published the book through a “well-known firm” and used a copyrighted last name, adding that she “leans into absolutely everything.”
“And I think anybody who does that is a bold, journalistic literate mind. And I’m just thrilled that I could say the same thing about my daughter,” Tom Hanks told Access Hollywood.
“It’s a pride because she shares it with me. She’s very open about what the process is,” he adds of the book.

Elsewhere in the interview, Tom Hanks opened up about what he has learned since becoming a parent.
“If you’ve had kids, you realize that you see who they are when they’re about six weeks old,” he said.
“Their personality is on display right there. Their temper, the way they see the world is demonstrated in their body language and on their face,” he added.
The “Cast Away” actor, whose newest film “The Phoenician Scheme” was released May 30, then opened up about working with his youngest son, Truman Hanks, whom he shares with wife Rita Wilson.
According to Tom Hanks, his son “wants to be on camera” and “worked every day on the movie” and even spent “a couple of days on camera.”
Tom Hanks was also featured in his other son Chet Hanks’ newest music video, “You Better Run.”
“Look, we all know what we do for a living. It’s the family business,” Tom Hanks said of working with his sons before relating his family life to owning an auto parts store.
“I look at it as: The Hanks family owns the second-most popular auto parts store in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, and twice a year we gotta do inventory, so the whole family shows up,” he joked.

Aside from Truman, Chet and E.A., Tom Hanks also has a son named Colin Hanks, who is also in the “family business” of acting.
