"I did marry a convert, but I was still related to him, too."
Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have gone their separate ways after nine years together.
The split reportedly happened “about a year ago,” according to People, and the couple are now fully committed to continuing their relationship as coparents to their 8-year-old son Lars.
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” Gibson and Ross wrote in a joint statement shared by People.

The announcement comes nearly one year after the couple lost their Malibu home in the Los Angeles wildfires.
Gibson was in Austin, TX at the time recording a podcast interview with Joe Rogan, per “The Hollywood Reporter,” but his family and pets were in Malibu and were safely evacuated from the home.
"The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we're all happy and healthy and out of harm's way, that's all I can care about, really," he said in a Jan. 9 interview with NewsNation.
Mel Gibson’s breakup also comes just three months after Gibson attended the premiere of his newest movie “Monster Summer” in Los Angeles.
Ross didn’t attend the premiere, but two of Mel Gibson’s kids — Lucia, 16, and Lars, 8 — did, according to People.
A look back at Mel Gibson’s dating history and large family

Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross met in 2014 through mutual friends, according to People.
The couple have faced scrutiny over the nine-year relationship due to their 11-year age gap — Ross was 23 and Gibson was 58 when they met.
"Regarding age and relationships, it's just a number," he told “The Mirror” in 2016. "We dig each other. She is an adult and we dig each other.”
“It might cause a problem and one has a trepidation about these things, but it's working out great. She is a really special person. I dig her. So there you go. That's it. What more can one ask?" he added.
The couple went on to welcome son Lars on Jan. 22, 2017 — Gibson’s ninth child and Ross’ first.
Gibson also shares seven kids — Hannah Mae, 45, Christian, 43, Edward, 43, William, 40, Louie, 37, Milo, 35, and Thomas, 26 — with his first wife Robyn Moore, according to People.
Gibson and Moore tied the knot in 1980 and were together for 29 years before Moore filed for divorce in 2009. The divorce was finalized two years later, per Reuters.
Gibson went on to welcome a daughter, Lucia, with Russian songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva in 2009 following his divorce. The couple parted ways the following year.
