“Hi, you guys. Don't even really know what to say..."
PGA Golfer Jake Knapp has spoken out for the first time since his girlfriend’s tragic passing.
Prior to Knapp’s statement, a friend of Makena White publicly shared news of White’s death on White’s Instagram account on September 26.
The friend described White as “one of a kind,” noting that the young woman “had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love.”
After the news of White’s death was made public, Knapp shared a statement with People hours later.
“Makena was such a thoughtful person whose selflessness toward others is something I will always appreciate," Knapp, 31, told People. "We shared so many unforgettable memories together and now that she’s no longer with us, it’s a tough reality to comprehend.”
Knapp continued saying White “had an incredible family, great friends, and her fun, outgoing energy will be missed by all of us.”
“It’s an understatement to say how hard all of this is to process for everyone who knew Mak,” the golfer told People, “especially her family and friends, who deserve privacy and respect during this difficult time.”
According to E! News, Knapp and White began dating in August 2023.
While it’s unclear exactly when White passed away, her friend noted that she “passed away earlier this week.”
“To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule,” the friend noted.
White’s cause of death has not yet been revealed.
White’s last Instagram post was a celebration of her and Knapp’s two-year anniversary on August 11.
“Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams 🫶🏼 Second season in the books — forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more,” White captioned several photos of herself and Knapp together. “I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.”
