Target recalls cooling pad for strollers and car seats after child suffers second-degree burns

Ryan Brennan | September 26, 2025

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning parents everywhere.

On Sept. 25, the CPSC recalled a popular stroller cooling pad due to a burn hazard that has already resulted in one reported injury in the United States.

The product — Hoovy Cooling Gel Insert Pads for Car Seats and Strollers — was manufactured by AMTRADING. Roughly 20,000 units were sold in Target stores nationwide between March and July.

The cooling gel pad was also sold online at Target.com and Walmart.com.

“This recall involves black Cooling Gel Insert Pads for strollers or car seats and contain an inner cooling layer that is activated by a child’s weight,” the warning reads.

“The recalled cooling pads are approximately 16.5 inches long by 14.25 inches wide,” it continues.

According to the CPSC, the product “can become hot if left in the sun or a hot car, posing a burn hazard to young children.”

The company has already received one complaint where a child experienced second-degree burns to his back after sitting on the cooling pad. The injury reportedly required medical attention.

The CPSC is urging parents to “immediately stop using” the stroller and car seat cooling pad.

To receive a full refund, parents should email info@hoovyproducts.com with “Recall” in the subject line. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, email and a photo of the product cut in half.

“The photo must also include a piece of paper with your initials and date,” Hoovy wrote on its website

A $25 refund will be sent to each customer by mail. If you paid more for the product, make sure you include a proof of purchase showing the amount paid.

This is the latest in a string of 12 Target recalls related to baby products and car seats in 2025, alone.

In July, Target recalled “Tegu Magnetic Floating Stackers Toys” and “Babyletto Kiwi Electronic Recliner and Swivel Gliders with USB port.”
