Two parents and a grandparent were arrested after a 7-year-old boy’s body was discovered in a freezer in their Lynwood, California, home.
A newly discovered, never-before-seen Dr. Seuss book was found at UC San Diego’s Geisel Library.
The discovery was made earlier this year and announced by Random House Children’s Books in a press release, published Oct. 26.
The book, which was written by Ted Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, is titled “Sing the 50 United States!” and will be released by RHCB on June 2, 2026.
It’s the first full manuscript written by Dr. Seuss to be discovered since the posthumous release of “What Pet Should I Get?” in 2015, according to the press release.
Not only did Dr. Seuss Enterprises (DSE) preserve the full manuscript, but they found a cover sketch — which was used for the cover — and “notes on the overall art direction” of the book, per RHCB.
The rest of the illustrations were completed by Tom Brannon.
“Uncovering a new work from Ted is like finding a time capsule of his imagination,” DSE’s President and CEO, Susan Brandt, said of the discovery, according to the press release.

“SING THE 50 UNITED STATES! celebrates his boundless creativity, genius with words, and enduring ability to inspire young readers everywhere,” she continued.
Judith Haut, who oversees Dr. Seuss Publishing at RHCB, described it as “something we dream of.”
“We are so excited for young readers and their families to enjoy a special storytime together—a true hallmark of what makes Dr. Seuss books so enduring today,” she added.
New Dr. Seuss book will be released in time for America’s 250th birthday
The book’s 2026 release will come one month before America celebrates its 250th birthday on July 4.
It’ll also come at a time when children and parents are preparing for another back-to-school season — which RHCB will honor with a backpack build alongside DSE and First Book.
First Book is a nonprofit working to remove barriers to quality education for children living in low-income communities, according to its website.

As part of the backpack build, RHCB will be giving away a backpack filled with a copy of “Sing the 50 United States!” — along with other Dr. Seuss books and school supplies — to participating students.
Each book will also come with a map of the United States beneath the book jacket, per the release.
“With Dr. Seuss’s signature rhymes, rhythm, and wordplay, ‘Sing the 50 United States!’ invites readers to learn and name all fifty states together with the iconic Cat in the Hat and two Little Cat helpers,” RHCB wrote.
