350 million real Christmas trees are grown in the United States every year — and between 25 and 30 million of them are sold to families like yours.
Two parents and a grandparent were arrested after the body of a 7-year-old boy was discovered in a freezer in a Lynwood, California, home.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies found the boy's body on Tuesday, October 28, while they were conducting a welfare check at the residence, according to reports from KTLA, KNBC and KABC.
The deputies were called to the home – which is located in an apartment building – after someone reported a dead child, according to KABC. Deputies responded to the scene and arrested the boy's mother Destiny Harrison, father Daniel Monzon, and grandmother Ana Zarceno-Carcamo after the body was found.
The outlets reported that Harrison, 25, is being held on suspicion of murder, citing the sheriff's department. Meanwhile, Monzon, 25, and Zarceno-Carcamo, 46, are both reportedly being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
All three suspects are being held on $2 million bail, according to jail records. However, it is not currently clear if they have been formally charged for the crime.
Authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the victim as of time of publication, and his cause of death is also not currently known.
The outlets also reported that three other children were at the home when the body was discovered. According to KNBC, the three children – who are 9 months old, 13 years old and 16 years – were all taken into protective custody.
“This is an unimaginable and horrific tragedy,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said in a statement, per KTLA. “My heart breaks for what the other children in this home must have experienced.”
Following the arrests, residents of the apartment complex told KTLA that there didn’t seem to be anything out of the ordinary about the family. Several neighbors said they would often see Harrison doing activities such as walking her dog or picking her children up from the school bus, adding that she seemed like a calm and quiet person.
“To me she seemed like a normal person,” one neighbor, who asked to not be identified, told the outlet. “The whole time she was here, she was walking her dog right here, and that’s about it.”
Meanwhile, others said they never heard much noise or commotion coming from the family’s apartment.
“Once I found out it was a kid, I was literally driving home with my gut going crazy,” nearby neighbor Christian Torres said. “It hurts when you hear about these cases, but when you live them and they’re so close to you, it’s a whole different thing.”
