LA District Attorney Reveals Charges Nick Reiner Is Expected to Face

Sara Vallone | December 16, 2025

Update: Multiple reports are revealing that Nick Reiner is expected to be formally charged on Tuesday, December 16.

According to The New York Times, Nick is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder including “a special circumstance of multiple murders. During a press conference, Nathan J. Hochman, the Los Angeles County district attorney said, “Prosecuting these cases involving family members are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching cases that this office faces because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes involved.”

Nick will not be arraigned in court until he is medically cleared, Hochman continued, according to The New York Times.

Hochman then cautioned the public when it comes to rumors surrounding the now high profile case. “There is a good chance you are hearing misinformation,” he said.

The charges expected to be brought against Nick “could result in the death penalty,” Hochman said.

Original reporting begins below:

After obtaining a lawyer, new reports have revealed that Nick Reiner, son of Rob, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, won’t be seen in court.

According to NBC Los Angeles, Nick, 32, has retained famed defense lawyer Alan Jackson to represent him after he was arrested and booked as a suspect in his parents murders.

Jackson was also Karen Read’s lead defense attorney.

On Tuesday, December 16, Jackson spoke with reporters revealing his client will not make an appearance in court until he is medically cleared.

As NBC Los Angeles reports, “the sheriff's department requires medical screenings for a variety of reasons.” However, Jackson said he is “hopeful” Nick “will be cleared to appear in court later this week.”

Nick was arrested on Sunday, December 14 before being booked on December 15.

According to updated jail records, Nick is still in police custody without bail. Previously it was reported that he previously being held on $4 million bail.

Both Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered deceased in their Los Angeles home. Various reports allege the famous couple was found by their youngest daughter, 27-year-old Romy.

No further information regarding their cause of death has been confirmed. A motive for the killings has also not been made public.

In addition to Nick and Romy, Rob and Michele are also parents to Jake, 34. Rob adopted his first wife, Penny Marshall’s daughter, Tracy, during their marriage.
