The pre-birthday vlog features apple-cutting tips, a "round of applause" for mom, and one very honest taste test.
If you’ve ever included your pet in your daily routines — car rides, hiking trips, lazy Sunday mornings — you already understand the desire to share every experience with the animal you love. Now imagine taking that impulse to its most extraordinary conclusion: three feet underwater in the Bahamas.
That’s exactly where a six-year-old parakeet named Bebe found himself recently, floating inside a custom-built submersible while his owner snorkeled alongside him. The moment, captured on video, has since captivated millions — and sparked a familiar debate among animal lovers about where the line falls between adventure and risk.
A Bond Built Over Six Years
Bebe’s owner, Steven Lawyer, told WBNS that the idea for the underwater outing grew naturally from the pair’s everyday life together. The two already share a range of outdoor activities, and Lawyer said Bebe genuinely wants to be part of whatever’s happening.
“We like to snorkel and he likes doing whatever we are doing with us,” Lawyer told WBNS. “So I thought, ‘let’s figure out a way to let him snorkel with us.’”

For anyone who has watched their own pet follow them from room to room or perk up at the sound of a leash, that instinct — to find a way to bring them along — resonates deeply.
Inside the “Bebosphere”
The device Lawyer built, nicknamed the “Bebosphere,” is a clear tube-like apparatus as a small, homemade submersible using a paintball air cylinder, an oxygen meter and lead weights to allow the bird to remain below the surface.
The viral video shows Bebe submerged approximately three feet underwater, remaining still and calm inside the apparatus. The footage shows the bird observing its surroundings while submerged, without visible signs of agitation.
Lawyer emphasized that Bebe’s participation was entirely voluntary — a detail that matters enormously to anyone who knows how clearly birds communicate discomfort.
“I know my bird, I know what he looks like when he’s nervous,” Lawyer told WBNS. “He’s intrigued in that video. He voluntarily went into the tube.”
An Adventurous Life Beyond the Water
The snorkeling clip wasn’t Bebe’s first brush with the extraordinary. According to WBNS, Bebe has previously accompanied Lawyer on approximately 15 skydives, secured in a transparent enclosure attached to his chest. The bird also goes bike riding with his owners, suggesting a well-established pattern of including Bebe in activities with thoughtful preparation.
For devoted pet owners, this broader context matters. This isn’t a one-time stunt — it’s a lifestyle built around a deep, years-long relationship between a man and his bird.

The Internet Reacts — With Awe and Concern
The clip was widely shared online, including by the X account Science Girl, which wrote: “There is a guy who takes his pet party on adventures. Here he is scuba diving in the Bahamas.”
The snorkeling video received nearly 600,000 likes and thousands of comments within two days. Many users celebrated Bebe’s underwater debut with joy and humor. Others questioned the authenticity or safety of the setup — a natural response from anyone who prioritizes animal welfare.
One commenter who said they know Bebe’s owners offered important context: “I know Bebe’s owners. Bebe is an extremely adventurous bird—he regularly goes bike riding and even skydiving with his owners, all done with loving planning and care by Steve and Cher. This isn’t some reckless, one-off stunt. I understand if some people are concerned, but a short clip without context does not give the full picture. So chill!!”
That tension — between celebrating an incredible bond and asking hard questions about safety — is one any caring pet owner understands. It reflects exactly the kind of critical love that makes devoted animal people who they are.
