“Saturday nights with my future Olympian. I think I finally found someone who likes practice more than I did.”
Cody Johnson isn’t afraid to admit that he parents his son differently than his two daughters.
In an interview with “Taste of Country Nights,” published Jan. 12, the 38-year-old country music star opened up about how his approach to parenting has changed since welcoming a son into the family.
And that change has ultimately resulted in him and his wife having different parenting styles.
"My girls, when they were little they would cry and I would be like. 'Oh come here baby, it's okay, it's okay,'" he said of the two daughters — Clara Mae, 10, and Cori, 8 — he shares with wife Brandi.

But when it comes to his newborn son, the “I’m Gonna Love You” artist adopts a “different kind of love.”
“Toughen up son, you'll be fine,” he recalled telling his son when he started crying over a binky. “Jesus, it's just a binky."
Cody Johnson’s wife, whose parenting style is “the exact opposite,” often scolds him over his change of pace.
“Don’t be so mean to him,” he recalls his wife saying to him, to which he responds, “He’s fine, he’s grown already.”
His comments come almost three months after the couple welcomed their third baby together.
"I didn't know if you were gonna bring it up, but yeah, baby Jaycee, finally got my boy," Johnson said while co-hosting the “Country Countdown USA” with Lon Helton in mid-November.

The baby boy, named Jaycee Daniel, was born on Oct. 21, according to Johnson.
"He and Mom are here at the house. They're happy and healthy, and it's been a wonderful experience,” he said of the new baby.

Johnson and his wife, Brandi, have known each other since they were teenagers, but didn’t start dating until years later and eventually wed in 2008, according to People.
He has talked extensively about his parenting style in the past.
The country music star, who was named Male Vocalist of the Year on Nov. 19, often brings his daughters on tour with him as a way of teaching them the hard work that goes into mastering his craft.
In an interview with “Taste of Country” in 2023, he opened up about what it means to be a girl dad.
“I just always try to be with my girls, the guy that I want them to bring home someday,” he said. “I figure if I can do that ... their standards will be here.”
“You open the door, you say, ‘Yes, ma’am,’ and you treat them like they’re supposed to be treated,” he added.
Johnson will have plenty more memories to make with his kids when he embarks on his “Live in 2026” tour, which kicks off on Feb. 6 in Birmingham, Alabama.

The tour, which was announced Jan. 12, runs through Sept. 12 and includes 28 concert dates in 26 cities.
