“The worst part is… I feel like cancer has robbed me of memories with my boy.”
Kirsten Dunst was hoping to enjoy some family time while filming her new movie in Budapest — but life had other plans.
The 43-year-old actress and mom of two is starring alongside Keanu Reeves in “The Entertainment System Is Down,” which was filmed in the Hungarian capital from January to May, according to Deadline.
Instead of going months without seeing her family, Dunst decided to bring her brood with her.
In a new interview with Town & Country, published Aug. 20, Dunst shared that her husband Jesse Plemons flew to Budapest with their two kids in January and planned to stay all the way through May.
The couple, who have been married since 2022, share sons Ennis Howard, 7, and James Robert, 4, according to People.
To make the trip work, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons rented a house and enrolled their older son in school.
But not long after, the couple’s younger son suffered a “serious health scare,” per Town & Country.
Dunst chose to not go into details, but she did share that the “extremely frightening” incident forced Plemons to fly their kids back to Los Angeles to be with their “extended support system.”
And while Dunst was left alone in Budapest to film, she “stresses that everyone is fine now,” per the outlet.
Kirsten Dunst compares the experience to a ‘Final Destination’ film
Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons first met as co-stars on the set of “Fargo” in 2015, according to People.
They started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2017 and welcomed their first son in 2018, followed by their second son in 2021, per the outlet. They tied the knot one year later.
Being away from her kids was “challenging,” Town & Country reports, especially since she couldn’t comfort her son during a scary time, but she did fly home briefly in April to ensure everything was okay.
She likened the near-tragic experience to a scene from a “Final Destination” movie.
“That’s how it feels to be a mother at times,” she told Town & Country — though she admitted to never watching any of the films.
She also felt that the experience “brought us together as a family in such a deeper way.”
And to make up for the lost trip, the couple promised their two sons a vacation to “anywhere James wanted to go.”
The actors chose the Bahamas after their youngest son said he wanted “to go to a beach where my sandcastle won’t wash away.”
In addition to “The Entertainment System Is Down,” Dunst is also starring alongside Channing Tatum in “Roofman,” which is set for an Oct. 10 release date, per IMDB.
As for what’s next, Dunst says she hopes to be included in the upcoming film “Minecraft 2” — and gave two very specific and relatable reasons why.
