If you grew up reading Magic Tree House books, then listen up.
On Dec. 10, Mary Pope Osborne — the author behind the beloved children’s book series — took to Instagram to reveal that Magic Tree House is finally being adapted into a TV show.
The announcement comes 33 years after the first Magic Tree House book was published.
“After many years of dreaming of this moment, I’m delighted to share that Magic Tree House is officially coming to life as an animated series!” Osborne wrote on Instagram.

The show will be created using Spuree’s ethical, AI-enabled 3D platform, according to Variety.
Osborne will be heavily involved in the creative process and will serve as an executive producer of the show alongside her husband and creative partner, Will Osborne.
The show will be produced by Rideback — best known for “The Lego Movie” (2014), “It” (2017) and “Lilo & Stitch” (2025) — while award-winning composer Randy Courts will create the show’s original music.
“For many years, I’ve been looking for the right opportunity to adapt my books into a series for the screen in a way that would allow me a real seat at the table — an experience authors almost never have when their work is adapted for other media,” Osborne said, per Variety.
“But now, finally, thanks to the forward-thinking teams at Spuree and Rideback, I’m able to have that and bring my handpicked creative team along with me to realize my long-held dream of bringing Magic Tree House books to the screen in a way that feels true to their spirit,” she added.
The Magic Tree House series will be available on digital and streaming platforms, as well as through parent, teacher and librarian networks. A release date has yet to be announced.
Fans share mixed reactions to the ‘Magic Tree House’ show
The first Magic Tree House book — “Dinosaurs Before Dark” — was published in 1992.
Since then, Osborne and her husband, along with several other members of her team, have published more than 100 books and sold more than 194 million copies around the world in 39 different languages.
The story follows Jack and Annie, a brother and sister who discover a magical tree house filled with books.
It’s the type of book series many parents today grew up reading — and since Osborne hasn’t stopped writing in 33 years, a lot of those parents have passed their love for the series onto their children.

But many of her fans shared mixed reactions about the Magic Tree House animated series.
“I got SO EXCITED when I heard about this. I read these books as a kid and my son is reading them now. If this is AI generated animation we will be boycotting,” one fan wrote in a comment on Instagram.
Others shared similar sentiments:
- “You waited all this time to make it with AI?? Sad. This series deserved so much better."
- “So disappointing that a series built upon imagination will be made with AI.”
- “man I was so excited for this but if it's ai I will not be supporting. as an author how can you support ai?”
- “Guys, sadly it’s gonna be AI generated. Bummer.”
Despite the backlash, some fans were able to look past the AI.
“This is so exciting! My kiddos will be so excited. We’ve read every book! (They’re 7 and 4),” one fan of the book series wrote.
“What a time to be alive! I read all these as a child and now reading them to my kids and they will be as excited as I am!” another fan commented.
