“Even if I gotta come back breastfeeding with my baby in arms, I’m coming back to pick up where I left off.”
On July 28, the New York Police Department announced the death of NYPD officer Didarul Islam who was shot and killed while on duty in a mass shooting in midtown Manhattan.
At the time, Islam and his pregnant wife, Jamila, were just weeks away from welcoming their third child into the world.
On Aug. 17, Jamila gave birth to the couple’s third son — and NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch honored him in the most special way.

“Out of tragedy, a new life has entered this world,” Tisch wrote in an X post on Aug. 18 that featured a photo of newborn baby Arham swaddled up in a red, white and blue striped blanket.
A second photo shows Arham being cradled by his oldest brother Ahyan, who was seated next to other brother Azhaan.

“Together, they will carry forward their father’s legacy of service and courage — a legacy the NYPD will guard and uphold with the same devotion Didar gave to this city,” Tisch added in her post.
“Jamila, Ahyan, Azhaan, and now, Arham will forever be part of the NYPD family,” Tisch concluded.
New York Mayor Eric Adams also took time to honor the birth of baby Arham at a press conference on Aug. 18.

"On a happier note, we learned that Officer Islam's wife gave birth to a young, beautiful baby boy," Adams said, per People.
"I stopped by the hospital in the lobby yesterday to talk with family members. Mother was in labor. And we're really excited that she gave birth to a beautiful young child,” he added.
NYPD officer was one of four victims killed in mass shooting
According to Today, Islam had been with the NYPD for more than three years and was working as a private security guard at a Park Avenue building when shots were fired on July 28.
Islam, an immigrant from Bangladesh, was shot and killed after confronting the Manhattan shooter, who was later identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, per Today.

“He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice — shot in cold blood, wearing a uniform that stood for the promise that he made to this city,” Tisch added at the time.
The Manhattan shooting also claimed the lives of three others, including a Blackstone executive and a second security guard, and left one other victim critically wounded.
